KLANG, Malaysia — A 68-year-old man had a lucky escape when the iron fencing rod he fell on narrowly missed his chest and pierced through his armpit.Ng Ah Eng was pruning plants at his house compound in Jalan Alor Star, off Jalan Kapar, when the accident happened Sunday evening. He was on a ladder but he slipped and fell on the fence, said Sungai Pinang fire station Senior Fire Officer II M. Sathiaseelan. A neighbor called the Fire and Rescue Department at 4:40 p.m. and a team reached the scene within five minutes. “The fencing rods are solid iron but we managed to cut through three of them in 20 minutes,” said Sathiaseelan. He revealed that the firemen did not pull the iron rod out from Ng as it would cause profuse bleeding. “We sent him to hospital by ambulance with the impaled iron piece,” said Sathiaseelan. I regret entering this thread. I'm cringing so hard right now.
Might want to link those photos instead.
Might want to link those photos instead.
Well he did warn you in the title.
Shit, he's either taking that very well or using all of his effort to stay calm. Or he just might be in shock. Either way, jesus. I hope his arm will be okay.
Could've been a lot worse.
Yikes... thank goodness it wasn't in anyplace important.
To be totally honest, I'm not so worried about the whole penetration deal as I am about the possibility of massive infection as a result of this. Fences are not known for being sterile clean.
Doesn't the rupture of sweat glands kill you, or is that just a myth?
Doesn't the rupture of sweat glands kill you, or is that just a myth?
I've never heard about this
Shit, he's either taking that very well or using all of his effort to stay calm. Or he just might be in shock. Either way, jesus. I hope his arm will be okay.
He's probably still on the fence about deciding whether he should be upset or not.
Remember for times like this there's vicodin; Vicodin, after a few you feel awsome
Remember for times like this there's vicodin; Vicodin, after a few you feel awsome
Thank you, next time someone attempts to throw a pitch fork at me I'll remember that.
Good thing he didn't just pull out, I heard punctured armpits can have you bleeding to death alarmingly fast.
My family have a hate for these types of fences, my great uncle died as a boy when he was climbing a tree and fell onto one of these types of spiked railings.
Doesn't the rupture of sweat glands kill you, or is that just a myth?
It's a myth for sure.
Ha you guys think this is cringe-worthy? There was a guy running from the cops in Brazil some years ago, he tried to leap a fence like this but his crotch got impaled. Ended up bleeding to death in some dirty alley. There's a vid on Youtube but you can look it up yourself, sorry.
Impalement is scary. I remember some story from one of those late night medical shows about a guy that drove straight into a single metal pole farm gate the was open at night, and it went straight through his engine compartment, straight through him, and back into the car. Basically skewering him into the car. Between the shock and adrenaline he didn't even notice at first. I think he survived. Adrenaline and shock are a hell of a drug.
There's an artery in the armpit, right? hopefully he didn't sever that
There's an artery in the armpit, right? hopefully he didn't sever that
If he did there would be a lot more blood and he would probably be dead. I remember overhearing anecdotal smalltalk between corpsmen saying arterial bleeds are audible and gushing. [editline]28th July 2015[/editline] Also when my orthopedic surgeon poked my femoral artery I lost over 3 pints of blood in the time it took for a vascular surgeon to fix it. Arteries are serious business.
This happened to my dad as a kid, he got bucked off a horse and lended on a pocket fence. One of the spikes went through his abdomen. Luckily as long as it doesn't hit something vital it's usually not soo serious and just leaves a nasty scar, so long as there's no complications in removing it.

Yes
Argh, this is why fences with spikes make me cringe. Surely there's other ways than to impale trespassers? I'd rather have trespassers anywhere but pierced on my fence :scream:
Doesn't the rupture of sweat glands kill you, or is that just a myth?
If it were true we'd never survive as a species [editline]29th July 2015[/editline]
Argh, this is why fences with spikes make me cringe. Surely there's other ways than to impale trespassers? Of course I would never leave someone impaled like that, but I hope they would learn a lesson at least. Anyway, was I the only one not to cringe... then again I've seen worse in real life...
I absolutely hate this type of fences. Jesus Christ that looks like it impaled through his bone. I really hope this ends up banning this kind of bullshit.

The third picture in the OP looks like he's feeling it.
