I'm surprised the Cinematic Mod made it into the video :v:. Other than that this was enjoyable to watch.
I never knew that arcade version existed. That's badass

There was a thread on this forum trying to port it to PC. I'm pretty sure it died out though.
EDIT:
Oh shit, they released it.
kind of weird to have a game that was released in my lifetime be already considered a retro game.

Now i know how my dad feels when he talks about the Atari 2600 and Commodore 64.

It was released more than 10 years ago, so, you know
Fucking Trump Quest made an appearance. Shame they didn't look at this God amongst mods.
God damn.
The technical differences between the various ports are quite interesting to read about to be honest, nice to see them condensed like this. I never noticed the PS3 port was quite as fucked as this however. Kinda got used to performance jank on early PS3 games.

You do see how nuts this is though? There are some things in history that went on for hunderds of years, and now something as old as a decade can be already considered retro.

We're not old at all, time just decided to go batshit insane lately.

Video games are probably the fastest evolving media currently.
I like that he has one of those HL2 collector's edition t-shirts. I still have mine but it looks half-dead.

makes sense, considering that it's Half-Life.

Back in 2004, Doom was already considered retro, even though it was only ~10 years old at that time.
Technology progresses really fast
Also, the first time I played HL2 in 2005 I used a recently assembled AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ + GeForce 6600GT system, and from what I can remember it ran at 75+ FPS constantly
I didn't even know that they ported HL2 to the original Xbox.
Kind of impressive to be honest
not if you played it
I remember discovering the HL series through the original Xbox port of HL2. As a 12 year old kid back then, I was impressed at how good it looked for a console game. Looking back on it now, it could've been better. But I don't regret it. It led me to a great series and to PC gaming.
Really unimpressive performance-wise, but impressive somewhat in the same sense as, say, getting your refrigerator to run Doom.
Speaking of Doom, Doom 3 is also on Xbox, but the levels are cut down to keep the performance consistent.

TBH it doesn't look as bad as I'd been hearing, at least for HL2. Episode 2 looked awful.
speaking of the arcade version, i can't help but feel reminded of something:

Whatever people may think of HL2, I think everyone can agree that it was outstanding technologically when it first came out.

I thought it was as close to photo-realism as you could get, then again I though the same thing about the first Half-Life when it had just come out as well
Most if not all of the assets have been remade and redesigned for this mod
...which all happen to be stolen.
A lot of people talk shit about Cinematic Mod, but I actually liked how more details were added to the levels.

It's kind of amazing to me that Half Life 2 has been out for 3/4ths of my life. It feels like just yesterday I was running Antlions over with my jeep.

The main problem people have with CM isn't that it's not good looking, it's all the ridiculously sexual shit added. Shit like Alyx's dildo and the fucking graphiti all over the city is fucking retarded and it means I couldn't play it when others are around, so I'll just play Update over it any time.
Man, I remember buying CS:S and HL2 for the very first time at Wal-Mart in order to play gmod, not fully comprehending the sort of amazing shit I was buying for it.
I'm wondering how he got to play the original 2004 version. If I try to install it from the disc, it will just forcibly update upon launching Steam.

If I had to guess, he forced it offline or the computer didn't have a connection to update with.

Most of which makes no sense. Also he modeled Alyx's cervix.
A lot of people talk shit about Cinematic Mod, but I actually liked how more details were added to the levels.
Adding details wasn't an issue at all; in fact, HL2 could definitely use some more detail in most of its maps. Update and the UE4 demo did this pretty nicely in their own ways.
What is an issue (besides the creepy and unneeded favoritism for Alyx, how it absolutely destroys everything that makes HL2 what it is, etc.) is that there's nothing but needless clutter for the sake of "detail" rather than positioning things strategically where they would make sense or otherwise give a certain set piece some liveliness. Compare this shot of the area near Station 1 with that of the CM version:

Where the fuck did all of that concrete rubble come from? What's with the Ask Ketchum / Scott Pilgrim graffiti in the background? How can the player or for that matter NPC's clip onto the ground right?
There's so many problems beyond that but you all probably got the gist already.
