Shit's fucked-up. It seems kind of stupid of the Russians to bully the journalists like that. Even just being polite and do a little interview before sending them on their way would do wonders not to portray the Russian soldiers as a bunch of goons. I mean heck even a lot of guerrilla or rebel groups, or even terrorist groups know that you're only shooting yourself in the foot by mistreating journalists. Well I suppose they are so far down the "not giving a fuck" route that they don't even care of they're portrayed in a bad light.

Soldiers generally are not expected to give interviews (understandable), but our guys especially, they're so used to shit being trown at them constantly by everyone, they stopped caring after Afghanistan. I think I can even pinpoint the exact moment: when they first heard about "toy mines" they were apparently throwing around. In a situation such as this it's also not at all surprising: no matter what you say, you're still going to be portrayed in a bad light, so you might as well just not say anything. You can't say anything that conflicts with the official line of information, so you can at least avoid lying and be a dick instead.
