But wait, there's more. The single-family home at 30121 SW 147 Ct. in southwest Miami-Dade also contained a hatchway to an underground crawl space leading to the outdoor pool, the report said. Inside the concrete-covered pool, the report said, officers found "a fully functional hydroponic marijuana lab located underground."
Moral of the story kids; always wear your seatbelt if you don't want your underground marijuana lab being found. Oh.. my state http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/crime/fl-pool-pot-discovered-20140131,0,426674.story There's a video in the source if you care
How does a seatbelt violation lead to a home search?
How does a seatbelt violation lead to a home search?
In the source it says the police officer smelled a strong cannabis odor from his vehicle; here in florida that's grounds for you to get fucked. EDIT: clarifying a little more, the cannabis odor alone wasn't what caused them to search his house. Sealbelt violation to the odor to discovering the 5 pounds of MJ to the man giving police written consent to search his house
Thank God these pot growing, seatbelt ignoring monsters are off the streets.
In the source it says the police officer smelled a strong cannabis odor from his vehicle; here in florida that's grounds for you to get fucked.
Thats messed up.
Thats messed up.
Whatever these heroes need to do to keep lethal used pot needles out of the hands of the children.
Thank God these pot growing, seatbelt ignoring monsters are off the streets.
another victory in the drug war started by Nixon
Just reading this makes me want to leave this state even more.
In the source it says the police officer smelled a strong cannabis odor from his vehicle; here in florida that's grounds for you to get fucked.
Rated dumb for the law, that doesn't make any fucking sense at all.
Rated dumb for the law, that doesn't make any fucking sense at all.
Thanks for clarifying, I was wondering what you found dumb. Yeah marijuana laws are absolutely horrible here in Florida. Getting convicted can ruin your job life for the rest of your life; one of my friends who got convicted only has the possibility of working online or at gas stations because of it. If you get convicted with 20g of weed on you for personal use you can get up to 5 years in prison from it. Hell, if you sell cannabis within 1000 feet of a school, college, park, or other specified areas you get a minimum of 15 years in prison; on top of the conviction for however much MJ you had.
In the source it says the police officer smelled a strong cannabis odor from his vehicle; here in florida that's grounds for you to get fucked.
It was probably more to do with the five pounds of weed found in his SUV after they smelled the odor, and honestly if that's not grounds for a search of their house then what is?
It was probably more to do with the five pounds of weed found in his SUV after they smelled the odor, and honestly if that's not grounds for a search of their house then what is?
Well yeah; because once they smell the odor they are legally allowed to search you without consent. I wasn't questioning why it happened. It's just a strange turn of events that it began from the sealbelt violation. Just one of those lingering "what-if" scenarios
Thats messed up.
Why? If you smell an illegal drug how is that not grounds for a search? Wouldn't be much different if they smelt a rotting corpse or if a stream of blood was dripping from the trunk.
Is marijuana on the ballot for legalization in Florida this November? I seem to recall it having overwhelming support (~70% of Republicans, 85%+ Democrats). [editline].[/editline] Nevermind, it's for medicinal marijuana only.
I'm more angry at him for risking his own life and not wearing a seatbelt, than him growing pot.
God damn look at all that weed.
Rated dumb for the law, that doesn't make any fucking sense at all.
Plain view[/smell] doctrine makes a whole lot of sense. The real stupidity here is that they had been given written consent to search the house. Searching a car because it reeks of weed is not new and happens every day, but why they would allow their house to be searched is beyond me. That, and the whole "pot is bad make it illegal" thing in the first place.
It was probably more to do with the five pounds of weed found in his SUV after they smelled the odor, and honestly if that's not grounds for a search of their house then what is?
What? No. That's not what happened, but even if it was, there is no connection between evidence found in a car and automatic search of someone's house. A probable cause affidavit would have to be filed and a warrant issued. There are very few exceptions to searches of dwellings, and that's not one of them.
So if police take his home, does that mean they'll eventually sell it back to the public? You could have your very own secret underground rooms and a pool.
Well yeah; because once they smell the odor they are legally allowed to search you without consent. I wasn't questioning why it happened. It's just a strange turn of events that it began from the sealbelt violation. Just one of those lingering "what-if" scenarios
It may seem strange because a lot of people think pot should be legal but they're literally smelling an outlawed substance in your car - why wouldn't they search the car? I mean if your car smelled like somebody was smoking or transporting 5 pounds of weed in it without your knowledge you'd probably report it to the police yourself

Unless you're just stating that
Nevermind, it's for medicinal marijuana only.
Better than nothing
So if police take his home, does that mean they'll eventually sell it back to the public? You could have your very own secret underground rooms and a pool.
They can (in some cases) take your car, but not your home.
What an oddly worded article. "traffic stop leads to discovery of underground pot lab but wait, theres more police discovered an underground pot lab after a traffic stop" Fffffwhat?
What an oddly worded article. "traffic stop leads to discovery of underground pot lab but wait, theres more police discovered an underground pot lab after a traffic stop" Fffffwhat?
It didn't make any sense until I read the actual article. They were busted for having a few pounds of weed in their car, and then later gave written consent to search their house for no fucking reason at all. Idiots.
Where did I say I was confused about that though? Unless you're just stating that
You just seemed to be confused on why it's ok to search them after smelling such a strong stench of an illegal substance in their vehicle. Once again, not arguing over whether or not it should be, that's just how it is at the moment

The title literally sounds like something out of Cheech and Chong.
i don't smoke or anything, but seeing pot being grown in dingy underground labs is really hilarious. the dingy underground lab makes it feel like something naughty and dangerous, and it's just there growing in fucking flowerpots lmao. it really is silly how violently a crop is pursued. there's really no reason why we can't just let some fucking gardeners plant the shit above ground like normal people.
for all we know, the man could have just been growing the crop for it's seeds. You can use them in baked goods.
