Its also worth noting the tank was purchased through Ebay by bartering a British army truck and Abbot self propelled howitzer, to meet the asking price of $37,000.
I wonder if they'll have to give it back. What are the rules for possibly "stolen" goods from a whole other country.
I don't think there's any question about possibly stolen or not. Those were definitely looted from a Kuwaiti bank or something.
If they can't prove conclusively who it belongs to, the crown may keep it (because britain), or it may go back to the tank guys.

Might fall under the Treasure Act 1996.
Objects substantially made from gold or silver but are less than 300 years old, that have been deliberately hidden with the intention of recovery and whose owners or heirs are unknown.
It may not apply to gold found hidden in objects though.
That's one hell of a find. Here's hoping they get some kind of reward if they have to return the bars to whatever Kuwaiti bank they were taken from. I mean, if you return something like THIS after finding it, while it IS a moral and legal expectation to do so, you should probably earn at least some sort of reward for it.

I would not post this online. I would disappear with new found wealth.

he had a bunch of friends and family helping him. even if he kept it secret, all it takes is one friend to report him because they're greedy or unhappy with their cut, and you're in a world of shit
I'm surprised they reported it.
Should have just sold it under the table to a smelter and fucked off.
It doesn't really matter if they report it or not.
They have a tank.
Who can stop them now?

I mean if we're playing that game, the RAF and their bombs could.
And blow up the gold? What monster would do that?
Really they should start robbing banks with the tank until it can hardly move.

Reminds me of the time someone somewhere rampaged a suburb with an armoured bulldozer

Well its might be pretty damn hard to launder millions of dollars in gold. Better to do it little by little.
I'd probably still try it tho.
Can't imagine how the tank crew felt walking away from that.

Killdozer! My favorite example of DIY mayhem by nutcase.

in for a penny, in for a few bars of gold, right?
Smelt the gold and coat the tank with it.
