Have gmod, can I use half life 2?

garry's mod requires the following .gcf files to be mounted:

source materials.gcf
source sounds.gcf
source models.gcf
source engine.gcf

Every material, model, and sound from Half-Life 2 is [b]not[/b] hl2-exclusive. The content is used by any Source engine game. It's not "HL2" content.

Any Source game will mount these, as they're required to run.
In the case of [url=http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198016988496/games]manrayer88[/url], he owns L4D2. This activates and uses the aforementioned cache files, so gmod is allowed to run. Half-life 2, a completely separate game on the same engine, will not run. To test it, click this link:

You won't be allowed to use the content located in "half-life 2 content.gcf". This includes the hl2 maps and dialogue scenes - although the audio itself will still work.

Sheiken you can buy it if you own TF2, CS:S, or another Source game, do your research.

And manrayer, you can access some Half-Life 2 content through Gmod, but you can't play Half-Life 2 unless you buy it.
