Holy balls, this is extremely useful. I'm testing it on my headphones, it works great.
Now I just have to make it a habit to wrap all my cables like this.
I thought this was common knowledge. Been doing this with extension cords for years.

It keeps all strands in the inner core and shielding in better condition for longer so you wont have to replace them as often. Its also a common courtesy to return rental gear with cabling wrapped like this. it makes storing it easier .
Edit: this is also called "over & under" and good lord if you don't do this on tour you don't stay long.
