At the start of Cartoon Network back in the mid 1990's, Cow and Chicken and its sister cartoon, I am Weasel was created by David Feiss as part of the channel's first wave of selected original cartoons to air like Johnny Bravo and Dexter's Laboratory.
Cow and Chicken is basically about your typical domestic setting, but replace the kids with a '500 pound' 7-year old female Cow and an 11-year old male chicken and make the parents basically a pair of legs, that are actually seen to cut off above the waist in particular episodes and their feet do everything, including driving. They mainly talk to their kids in a very funny, wild and exaggerated manner with incredibly obscure or useless pieces of advice, such as "Don't go to the carnival naked".
Cow is innocent, childish and is normally either playing with her toys or falling in love with various school boys. Chicken is often rude and egotistical and spends most of his time hanging out with his two loyal friends, Earl and Flem (Who often end up in various homosexually-referenced situations).
There is also, probably the funniest character out of both cartoons, 'The Red Guy', a proudly pant-less interpretation of Satan that tries to deceive or torment them in his wide variety of roles. He can often look like he has Multiple Personality Disorder when participating in multiple roles, including rather amusing transgender ones.
It also had another cartoon that ran alongside it for the second half of the 30-minute block, called 'I Am Weasel'. The main character, a Weasel, is a very intelligent, highly respected member of society that is skilled in a wide range of areas and disciplines. His key trait is that he always chooses the morally/politically correct choices ("for I Am Weasel") and is typically loved by everybody except for I R Baboon, an unintelligent, egotistical Baboon, often laughed at for his shiny red butt. For everything that Weasel does, Baboon makes continuous efforts to outdo or undermine it, such as when Weasel invents time travelling underwear or supervises the writing of the Laws of Physics. The Red Guy also appears at various points in this cartoon as their tormentor or support character as well.
These cartoons had so much outrageous and surreal humour and they crossed loads of mature topics such as sexually transmitted infections, lesbianism, plastic surgery, war, the list goes on. I think these are more examples of great contemporary cartoons that portray how idiotic modern society can be.
I think 'I Am Weasel' is my favourite of the two because of its strong focus on the character's roles as a point of humour and because of the wider scope of situations they encounter.
Here's two funny clip compilations for each cartoon:

I haven't actually noticed.
(thanks for making me use my 800th post for this dude.)
I have never been high. But i imagine it would be like being in a show like cow or chicken. Seriously I was 8 at the time so I was up for anything, but those were the two trippiest shows of all damn time!
Pig butts.
Some great, great memories in this show.
I remember watching this with my Dad.
I heard the episode that got it canceled was about an all-female biker gang that burst into people's homes and ate their carpet (literally).
May be mistaken but if it's true then that's fucking awesome.
Lesbian stereotyping
The episode titled "Buffalo Gals" was banned because of its innuendos implying that the Buffalo Gals were lesbians and its typecasting of lesbians.[6] Some of the innuendos and sexual content included the carpet calling card Cow uses to find The Buffalo Gals, Mom's line "It's the Buffalo Gals, a biker group that randomly breaks into people's houses and chews on their carpet," the name of one of the bikers being "Munch Kelly", and the Buffalo Gals playing softball and talking about "pitching" and "catching", slang terms for gay sex. At the very end of the episode, Red Guy tells Cow and Chicken "You know, there's a moral to this story, but it's a secret!" and then leaves while laughing hysterically. Cartoon Network had aired "Buffalo Gals" only once because it was banned, and since then it was replaced with the episode "Orthodontic Police".
PORK BUTTS AND TATERS! PORK BUTTS AND TATERS!
aaahhh, I remember this show fondly...
EDIT:
"who stole my uvula!!!"
"um, Chicken, what's a uvula?"
Looking back on this show, how the fuck did it even get selected on a kid's network?
I liked Ed Edd & Eddy and Dexters Lab more then this but it was still pretty awesome.
The Red Guy's voice was great.

You can say this about almost any show on Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon.
