Stratovarius - Dreamspace - 1994

An album with 15 tracks, no filler, and impeccable production. The atmosphere of the album is rather dark, but empowering and the dramatic low register chords and high speed drumming on low tempo patterns proves to be effective, and features a drastic shift of feel half way through the album, and can be treated as 2 short near-perfect albums.
Megadeth - The World Needs a Hero - 2000

After 15 years of style changes, Megadeth return with a half-broken lineup to deliver what he labels as a 'ship lost at sea trying to return to its course'. A near-perfect mixture of the 80's thrash Megadeth and 90's Heavy Megadeth is delivered to us in this 12 track album, that is interesting from start to finish.
Iron Maiden - Powerslave - 1984

Normally states as Maiden's greatest album, the sound does not disappoint. Harmonizing riffs, galloping riffs and dual solos have never sounded better, and the dramatic vocals throughout give an epic feel to the album, more accrurately the 14 minute Rime of the Ancient Mariner which I could listen on repeat nonstop for a week.
Iron Maiden - Somewhere In Time - 1986

The absolute awesomeness of Powerslave seemed to be nearly unparallelable, but was managed very well in this release. The album is rather lengthy but not too much, and despite the length is incredibly listeneable for anyone. The added reverb to the guitars and the synth elements ad a more processed feel to the album, but in a good way. What I call Iron Maiden's best album.
Metallica - Metallica- 1991

Despite the infamous change in styles, my personal belief is that Metallica's self titled album is their greatest release. From start to finish, the heavy and thick sound fitted with the raw snare drum and badass bass gives a HiFi feel even at 128kbps audio, and riffs that pierce through the speakers and fuck your brain. It is impossible to list a standout track, because they are all just great, and even Enter Sandman is still enjoyable after seeing the film clip 500 times.
Slayer - Reign In Blood - 1986

A short lengthed Thrash masterpiece, with unmatched speed throughout and basically is rid of everything wrong with the boring thrash you can't get into. It's rare to see the same riff twice, and they all kick ass. After listening to it, it's hard to stop listening to it.
Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys, Part 1 - 1987

Power Metal, being the cheesiest genre, was perfected on this album. I like to think of it as Iron Maiden fucking Metallica, then having a dramatic child with a brilliant personality. The catchyness of the album will leave you singing A Little Time in public, then realising it's humanly impossible to match Michael Kiske's voice.
Sepultura - Beneath The Remains - 1989

Thrash Meeting Death metal was a match made in heaven, with the brilliant drum sound, guitar tone, and mixing despite the low budget. Yet again, no filler, but so many damn good tracks that you'll have to listen to it again to remember what your favourite one was. Not to mention Max's growling vocals are no doubt the best growls I've heard of any Death metal band in existance.
paul simon - graceland
just listen to it, youll see why.

It isn't just that he is an amazing singer, it is that this album has a feel of it that is glorious and him being blind.. adds to it's artistic quality. There is so much talent brought out of the man to create something quite out of this world to be honest.
5 Stars isn't enough really.

There's no answer to question "why" here.

Probably the best-flowing album I've ever heard. The story it tells, the emotions it invokes and the music it contains rank it highly in my favourite albums.

This album is one my dad listened to a lot when I was young, so it kind of stuck with me, but the songs on it are still as powerful as they were when I first heard them.

The absolute pinnacle of progressive rock. Long songs, huge use of layering, whimsical lyrics and with a fantastic singer to top it off. A classic.

Such a chill album, easy to get lost in, a brilliant example of chilled dubstep.

Among The Living

All of these albums have been particularly inspirational to me.

Probably my favourite album of all time; the album that got me into death metal and the album that made the band become relatively well-known, a staple for the melodic death metal genre. Beautiful, enchanting and harmonic yet at the same time powerful and brutal in every song, the poetic lyrics and relentless style make for an album comprised of 100% orgasm-out-the-ears.

The other album that made metal for me. Unmatched industrial metal in my opinion, with a style entirely of it's own that goes uncontested in the genre. It takes some listening to appreciate it.

Agree with this 100%. Helped shape my music taste, the riffs are definitely some of the best I've heard, the lyrics are beautiful, the production is pretty top notch, if not a little sharp sounding at times. Not a single song in there that's even CLOSE to mediocre. Each one is a masterpiece. It takes a great melodic death metal sound in the vein of dark tranquility, adds symphonic and doomy elements, and leaves you with one of music's best releases.

All the tracks flow really well, making a great album.

I will bend your brain........ with some saucerful of secrets. :mmmsmug:

The Divison Bell, Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother, A Momentary Lapse of Reason.
You can devour me on why they're great if you want but i just didn't really like them.
I probably shouldn't have said they're shite though.

Fair enough on Division Bell and Lapse of Reason.
But Ummagumma and Atom Heart Mother are superb in terms of being artful. People don't tend to like their pre-Dark side of the moon phase. I personally thought it was their greatest expressive period.
Woah woah woah
It's understandable, they aren't great. Gilmour's guitar work has been better and it doesn't deliver their messages as well as it could have.
They are good pop records.

The Divine Wings Of Tragedy by Symphony X
All of the songs are amazing. Most likely one of my favorite albums ever. The title song is epic.

I think that's why most people don't like them. They are good pop albums, but people want to associate it to the '70s Floyd too much. It's a similar scenario to Gabriel Genesis/Collins Genesis.

However with me, I still like it and enjoy it for what it is. They are actually good albums to me, and I'm contemplating on getting originals of them.
Of course
But I can't see the Division Bell being that great on vinyl because some stuff must be shortened

Ah, you've yet to hear about double albums :3:
Seems a little un-necessary to have a whole extra disc just to fit on 10 minutes extra
Probably too many to justify listing with pictures.
Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet
The first album I ever heard where listening through it took me to a completely different place. It's paced beautifully, with a strong arc and Anesthetize working as the centrepiece for the album. It's melancholic, it's angry and it's powerful.
Ihsahn - After
Another album with an incredible mood to it. Invokes images of a truly barren world, completely devoid of life but lush and beautiful in it's own way. The saxophone ties everything together, both as a composition piece, and in terms of the reprises in the last track "Upon the Shores" from sections of the centrepiece "Undercurrent". His best work, including Emperor if you ask me.
Metallica - And Justice For All
Metallica at their angriest. You can practically feel the pent up rage from their loss of Cliff Burton eking through the speakers at you. They all sound fucking pissed. The songs are long, experimental and filled with discourse on society's ills. The production isn't perfect, but adds it own mood to the songs and imparts a definite urgency on the guitar sound, which is absolutely massive. I really couldn't pick a favourite song from this.
Opeth - Watershed
There are a few Opeth albums I could choose but I thought I'd pick this one. This is the most expansive and ambitious. The ballads are explorations into nonfunctional harmony or pastiches to classic progressive rock, the metal songs explore many different genres and moods, and the whole thing has an air of something which takes a long time to discover. The prog/jazz section in "The Lotus Eater", but the whole album, from the Zeppelin-esque "Coil" to "Hex Omega" is glorious
Seems a little un-necessary to have a whole extra disc just to fit on 10 minutes extra
I've seen a 45 minute album on 2 discs dude.
The reason they do it is to get a bigger response from the lower frequencies. Widen the grooves and deliver more. :v:
Animals as Leaders - Animals as Leaders
This album is absolutely genius and this album shows what a brilliant mind can do with an 8-string guitar.

Primus - Pork Soda
Dat bass.

Reel Big Fish - Monkeys for Nothin' and the Chimps for Free
Great ska album and never bores me.

Periphery - Periphery
One of progressive metal's finest albums in my opinion.
