The website says those who sign up will be given a $5 Amazon.com Gift Card code, and then an addition $5 gift card code every three months for staying with the project as a "thank you." Google is also reported to have a more extensive version of the program in which web surfers participate by installing a “high-end router”. The Screenwise Data Collector project is offering $100 on signup, plus $20 per month up to one year’s involvement, technology website Ars Technica reports. “What we learn from you, and others like you, will help us improve Google products and services and make a better online experience for everyone,” the Screenwise website says. “To be eligible to join, you must be 13 or older, have a Google Account (or sign up for one), and be ready to use the Google Chrome browser,” it says. Online research firm Knowledge Networks is listed as the project's "panel management partner". Amazon is not involved in the panel An official statement from Google - acquired by website Search Engine Land - said the panel is a small project that started at the beginning of the year and is completely optional to join. “People can choose to participate if it’s of interest (or if the gift appeals) and everyone who does participate has complete transparency and control over what Internet use is being included in the panel,” the statement said. “People can stay on the panel as long as they’d like, or leave at any time.” Last month Google's new privacy policy outraged the web community, with one website warning: "Google will know more about you than your partner". The search giant said the new privacy policy will begin on March 1 and will tracks users’ actions across 60+ Google products - including YouTube, Gmail, Search and Google+.[/release]
If they want to see what kind of shit i've seen in my day, they should pay way more than $5
I'll pass.
I get $5 to show the dirty, filthy porn that I search? ABSOLUTELY!
I wouldn't do it but that's an awesome idea.
They really want to know my search history? Do they REALLY want to know my search history?
Someone needs to do this and ONLY search up gross fetishes or anything 'disgusting' to the 'normal viewer'. Imagine the look of that employee's face when they see it :v:. I would participate but 5$ every 3 months is not enough for me. (Also didn't it say UP TO 25$? So that means for the first 15 months they 'pay' you. I doubt they would even keep this up for 15 months.)
So if I'm understanding the video correctly - it's just using an algorithm of your previous history to interpret how you want something done, such as searching, spelling or other things - only they use that information to show adverts based around your previous searches as well?
I think we can all agree that Google is going to publish results eventually, finding that the internet really is just for porn.
Do it then look up a ton of unforgivable fetishes. Did you mean: "necroincestbeastscat porn?"
I could care less what kind of porn they know I'm searching, it's not like they're probably already tracking us to a good enough extent anyways.. Not enough motivation (money) to sign up though,
Part of me wants that $5, but the other part says its not worth it. Oh wait it's only history from google chrome? no problem I guess.
They would pay me $5 to stop showing them what I search on a daily basis.
it starts checking your search history right after installing that plugin?
Why don't I like this idea at all? I like Google and all, but they should keep their noses out of my business. Hell, the notion that they think they can buy off my privacy is practically an insult.
Doesn't sound too bad. For any private shit I can just use Firefox :v:
whore myself on the internet for 5 dollars? sure
I love how there is an ~outrage~ against google's new policy. They could just make it pop up once and of course, nobody would read it they would just hit accept none the wiser and google would carry on with their delicious browser history. Instead, they notify people and tell them it's optional and everyone flips their shit. That and the fact that they physically can't and have no reason to track every single person that uses their site and dig up info about every shmuck that searches anything.
Doesn't seem so bad. It's not like they'll be tracking everything I do online, just the stuff I do with chrome right? RIGHT!?!
I'm thinkin' we need to all do this and then completely fuck with the system :v:
I don't search a lot. Occasionally I use Google to find Facebook or something (too lazy to bookmark it), but I mostly stick to Facepunch and Reddit. Maybe a quick $5 isn't a bad thing, all things considering. Besides, what are they going to do? Throw adverts at me? My Adblock Plus takes care of that nicely, thanks.
sorry google you'll never find out about my favorite pokemons
now we're cheap internet hookers
I don't use Chrome, but I want money
Am I the only one that doesn't care what they know about what I search?
But first let me make some horrifying and unforgivable Google searches!
Who cares? at least they're giving people the option and paying them
Ey, I do my "unpreferable" searches in private mode, so as long as it only tracks you when you're logged in, I'd be game.
"learn more about how everyday people use the internet" I would probably mess up their statistics if I were to do this.
Guess i'm a 5 dollar internet whore now.
