That is where the infrared reflective panels would go they make a distinctive glow so friendly aircraft can easily ID the tanks.

There's something about the T-90 that's immensely attractive. I mean just look at it. It's not particularly elegant or refined. It's just raw. Russian ingenuity. What they've managed to do with the platform is just astounding.
Also I suspect this thread is going to become a pissing match between the Challenger 2 and Abrams which is pointless. The former is simply an Abrams with a few minor differences and newer Chobham armor.

What prevents enemy units from using the distinctive glow to help them locate the tank?

Tanks are already lit up like christmas regardless, the plates just give a certain reflection that lets the aircraft know it isn't a non friendly tank. It's not like you can hide from IR.
