http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgeXGnvzBjQ This is the first debute demo song called Wounded by the elegy made by the band Sealed Era, from the forthcoming My mental downpour - trilogy. Sealed Era is a new band from south-western Finland, playing music which can be labeled as progressive metal but which in fact has a lot more influence from varying styles, for example classical music. The members this far are: A'boran (Aapo Grönlund) - Lead vocals, growl & guitar, lead composer Havonil (Eerik Laivoranta) - Lead scream, vocals & keyboards Awath (Konsta Airisto) - Lead growl, vocals & guitar Recorded in Laitila, with Varppee's music studio gear. On this recording the bass was recorded by A'boran and due to practical and temporal issues a drum machine was used.
the signing is pretty errible but everything else is really nice. just needs a bit more studio quality in it though

Drums sound distant and bass is nonexistant, this is probably because of youtube though. Keyboard sounds good though. Intro riffing needs more screaming distortion I think, I like the keyboard following the lead guitar, it creates a pretty neat harmony. The rhythm guitar needs a boost in volume. The riffing after the small keyboard thing is good, vocals are weak and it sounds like the singer doesn't quite put everything he has in it, which makes it seem as if the lyrics doesn't matter at all and this is just your regular day at the office. If you want people to care, you have to let your heart out when you sing! The constant change between guitar-driven parts and keyboard-driven are abrupt and sudden, you need to work on some sort of transition between the two if you want it to work. The growl is actually pretty nice, it works well as a contrast to the lead vocalists smooth voice. It's actually really good, it has this low guttural control that makes it distinct and it follows the riffing very well. The main vocals being being double seems sort of unnecessary, it doesn't add any force to the vocal parts and just seems forced. Lead guitaring is really good and compliments the riffing very well. Not too high on the keyboard trying to sound like a piano, I think having it act as a synth (in terms of sound) even while doing the fooling around with the lead could make it sound better. The new set of growling coming in near 4:12ish sounds just terrible, not sure if it's the same guy or someone new but that highpitched growling just sounds bad, cut that one out. Some things that should be adressed in general is the tonal clarity of the guitars, the lead guitar seems to have very light distortion on it that blends in too much with the keyboard which makes it seem muddy, I think boosting the high on the lead guitar and lowering the higher mids on the keyboard could do a lot of good to make them different. If you want to keep it this way then the distorted guitar should get some more space in the mix, I think boosting the mids and lowering the high could make it stand out more too, and keep it from interfering with lead guitar and keyboard. Bass guitar needs to be of higher volume, the tone of it sounds good and I don't think there is anything that needs to be done on that one beyond volume. Drums could be a bit higher with cutting down on the high and mid-high, and boosting the low on it. This way, it will find its niche on the lower register while guitars and keyboard dominate the top. Bass will then fill in the void and it will sound fuller and more rich. Vocals, don't doubletrack it and sing with more conviction, the doubletracking gives it this airy feeling that I don't think works that well with the overall feeling of the track itself. The dark growling is really good and should be placed higher, beyond that no changes necessary.

I'm so happy that someone actually took the time to analyze the song properly. (: The Growling in all the choruses was done by me (Konsta alias Awath) The high pitched too. I was thinking of doing it the way it would've been dark growl all the time, but I tought It would add some variety to the song to have the high growl too . I must admit it sounds a bit ''interesting'' :D Next week we're starting to record the second song of the trilogy. Ill do a thread about it too when it comes out, be sure to check it out ;) Love Awath
