( sorry if late )
quote from part of the article
The father of a Pembroke, Ont., teen is warning parents to keep a close eye on their children's gaming habits after his son racked up nearly $8,000 in Xbox charges.
On Dec. 23, Lance Perkins got a credit card bill for $7,625.88 after his 17-year-old son used his credit card to make in-game purchases for one of the FIFA series of soccer games.
"It floored me. Literally floored me, when I'd seen what I was being charged," Perkins told CBC News.
Holy shit microtransaction are like casinos but at least with them you could win something
I can understand little kids fucking up this bad but a 17 year old?
jesus
Alternate title: parents irresponsible with money, gets surprised when kid has free reign over their card
Why would you trust your 17 year old son with your credit card details? That was always going to be a recipe for disaster.
Why would you trust your 17 year old son with your credit card details? That was always going to be a recipe for disaster.
same reason why they trust younger kids with credit card details for steam, its only one game.

That really depends, just because you're below 18 doesn't mean you will fuck everything up if you're given responsibility. This kid clearly knew what he was doing, and trying to say that he thought the money was "not real" is just blatant bullshit.

Also give kid some money and he can become fucking rich.
Rare occurrence though

Ugh hes pretty much an adult not some clueless kid. My mom trusted me with iTunes buying music every now and then when I was 15

Recipe for disaster? Only if you haven't raised them to be responsible. My mother gave me and my brothers her credit card details at around 12-13 years and we knew to take it seriously.

What are in the FIFA games that could rack up to $7625, even?
How much DLC is there to buy in FIFA??
How much DLC is there to buy in FIFA??
I reckon it's the stupid Fifa dream team shit, it's a card game.
IIRC you can assemble a team you want if you have the cards of the players you want, but the card packs cost money.
How much DLC is there to buy in FIFA??
Iirc Fifa has micro transactions for card packs of players you can use online or something, some of these can be csgo knife grade rare I think

It all goes to show that age is a terrible gauge of someone's ability. Some young-'uns can be conscientious as fuck, while at the same time we have folks over 30 who can't manage their own lives for toffee. It's not always the case, but it crops up a fair bunch.
Why would you trust your 17 year old son with your credit card details? That was always going to be a recipe for disaster.
My parents trusted me with theirs, I never betrayed their trust.
Perkins said he had given his son a credit card for emergencies or to make purchases for the family's convenience store.
Although his son confessed he had been using the card illicitly, Perkins said his son, too, was truly shocked at how much he had spent.
'He's just as sick as I am'
"He thought it was a one-time fee for the game," Perkins said.
"He's just as sick as I am, [because] he never believed he was being charged for every transaction, or every time he went onto the game."
how???

I knew my dads credit card details since I was 13, never did anything stupid with it.
kid's probably lying.
Of course he's lying, he's covering his own ass.
My parents trusted me with theirs, I never betrayed their trust.
it's to the parent to see if there trustable or not

The kid is lying. But it being on the news now, the parents will probably be given the info that it's a shop the kid had to access and pay each time.
But they would have to not have checked their credit card online or something to not realize "oh hey 2k is missing, oh hey 3k is missing on stuff I never bought"
Unless the kid spent 8 grand pretty quickly.
Of course he's lying, he's covering his own ass.
Doubt it. Do you really think someone is dumb enough to spend 8k on purpose and not think they'll get caught?
Ahahahaha I know this kid and he isnt too smart. I live in the next town over (Petawawa).
Ahahahaha I know this kid and he isnt too smart. I live in the next town over (Petawawa).
oh please, details
Doubt it. Do you really think someone is dumb enough to spend 8k on purpose and not think they'll get caught?
Addicts lie all the time. Anyone can lie. Even if they're dumb, they think a simple lie "oh I didn't know it was every time" isn't hard to think of.
What goes through someone's mind when they're spending $8,000 on stupid shit using their parents' own credit card? That it's somehow okay and their parents won't notice the huge bill? What an idiot.
[editline]13th January 2016[/editline]
This is why we have a credit card debt almost-crisis in the world. People thinking credit cards are just free money. This is why we can't have nice things.
How the fuck does Fifa even have $8,000 worth of micro transactions?
oh please, details
I dont want to go into detail about the kid, but he works at McDonalds and its safe to say hes going to be working there for a long time.
For me I was given my own bank account and a card, if I fucked up I'd get to pay the overdraft in labour (never happened tho)
wtf is all the talk in this thread my parents trusted me with online money since I was 16 and I never spent it on accidental yachts or anything
kids just stupid
