I'm very curious how they'll handle archery. It probably won't happen but imagine if it's brutally realistic like you get hit with an arrow in your first fight and you die from gangrene 10 days later.
Yeah, would be cool if they could simulate being crippled, like your experienced fighter losing his leg or a hand and never fighting again.
dying slowly and painfully over a course of days would definitely be a fun and engaging gameplay mechanic.
dying slowly and painfully over a course of days would definitely be a fun and engaging gameplay mechanic.
Finally I can live out my greatest fantasies.
100k quid over the goal, still 25 days to go Dayuuuum
Very very promising but I'm going to wait to see straight unedited gameplay before I pledge. This is exactly what I've been looking for but it's hard not to be skeptical.
I hope we can have kids every time we have sex. I want to catapult flaming piles of babies at the opposition.
dying slowly and painfully over a course of days would definitely be a fun and engaging gameplay mechanic.
seriously though if some ultra brutal-realistic game like that came out, I'd probably give it a go.. Just imagine losing your hand in an FPS game (like BF) but not dying&respawning just yet, oh no.
how would that be fun at all? it'd just be tedious and frustrating
depends on whether or not people want a realistic game, it's a matter of opinion facing the consequences of your battles, if it's well done, it would be interesting to experience
Hopefully if this becomes a huge hit we'll see more things like it. Not every RPG game needs magic, potions, and fantasy creatures in it.
Looking cool, I hope the melee combat is both complex and in-depth but fun.
I'd probably enjoy the game more if it had the fantasy elements AND the things in the trailer but it still looks really cool and I'm excited for it

Bravery Buff
4:35 to 4:50 That basically hit all of my interests. This game looks fucking awesome!
depends on whether or not people want a realistic game, it's a matter of opinion facing the consequences of your battles, if it's well done, it would be interesting to experience
I hope it has realistic travel times.
Looks like a higher production value Mount and Blade. And that isn't a bad thing at all.
I hope it has realistic travel times.
"Soldier B has died of dysentery"
Looks like a higher production value Mount and Blade. And that isn't a bad thing at all.
Other than medieval, I can't draw any parallels between this and mount and blade.
Oh man, I can see the unfulfilled promises from here. I mean yeah, I'm really interested in this, and it sounds like everything I could ever want, but if past experiences are anything to go by...
Other than medieval, I can't draw any parallels between this and mount and blade.
uhhuu
I'm very curious how they'll handle archery.
TBH I'm tired of OP archers in games. The power of bows is greatly overstated and their purpose is generally diluted and misrepresented in most games, including chivalry and M&B. I hope we don't see any legolas/robin hood bullshit to be honest, if I see an arrow penetrate plate/chainmail + gambeson, I'm going to get cancer. It'd be fantastic if bows were accurately represented as a skirmishing weapon rather than "lol longbow shoots through plate armor and kills entire extended family"
uhhuu
You are by all means welcome to elaborate.
You are by all means welcome to elaborate.
First person battle participation, first person sieges combat (that's 70% of what M&B is about anyways) The list of ways that it's not like M&B is quite short. - No kingdom building - No RTS mechanics beyond that everything else is quite a lot like an in-depth M&B experience.

I rarely see first person gameplay footage. Besides, with the combat system being so different, AND with the addition of crafting and such, and an enhanced, more personal RPG experience, I can't honestly say this is "a high production m&b". The design of the two games are different on several aspects.
I want to know more about the combat before I pledge. I am fearful it will be some Assassin's Creed style "counter-move" bull-shit where it is laughably easy and just there for eye candy. I really, really hope I am wrong, but they haven't gone into much depth about it yet.

In most games such as Mount&Blade or Skyrim you're perfectly fine once the battle is over, even if you look like a walking pincushion. Now if Kingdom Come does go for ultra realism (which I doubt), then suppose you're wearing cheap cloth or leather armor and you get hit. If the game is really playing hardball on being realistic then your chances are pretty slim. The Annoying Arrows page on TVTropes puts it best:
An arrow hit on a lightly armored or unarmored person might knock them off their feet. Trying to continue doing anything with an arrow sticking out of you is difficult at best, although whether the difficulty is primarily physical or psychological is dependent on where the arrow is sticking. Attempting to pull out an arrow will only make things worse - historically, arrowheads were not firmly adhered to their shafts. Sometimes they were attached with a blob of candlewax, but usually the archers would simply spit on the shaft before sticking the head on - thus, snapping the shaft (a lot more difficult than Hollywood makes it look, as they were made from the hardest woods available so they would fly further and straighter), was completely pointless, as pulling on the shaft would leave the arrowhead inside the wound. The only way to remove one was to widen the wound, either with a knife or by wiggling it around. And as archers would usually stick a number of arrows in the dirt at their feet in preparation for firing them, arrow wounds had a strong tendency to become badly infected. The only way to deal with an arrow quickly was to push it through until the head came out the other side. A hit from an arrow was never Only a Flesh Wound.

Don't know about with a gambeson but I'm pretty sure tests have concluded that a longbow can piece plate armor at very close range, though that situation is unlikely
Depends which 'plate armour' you're talking about. The results would vary on which century it was made in, its maker and its quality. Not all plate armours are created the same so the 'longbows can pierce plate at very close range' statement is extremely fishy if not false. [editline]27th January 2014[/editline] I'm sure that sometimes, an arrow shot from a proper longbow did pierce plate but the real question is, what's the quality of that plate? Is it just a flat sheet of metal? Is it properly hardened? What is it made out of? Is it a reconstruction? etc...
