When it comes to odd brand-licensed product mashups, typically you can count on Japan for a laugh here and there, but today, it's China bringing the chuckles. With a Pepsi-branded smartphone. No, I don't know why. But why not?
The Pepsi P1 is, by all accounts, an extremely forgettable cookie-cutter Chinese Android phone you'd find on Alibaba for about $150. It has a large 5.5" 1080p display, a MediaTek processor, 16GB of storage, 2GB of RAM, and 13MP/5MP cameras. All, of course, atop a Pepsi-branded Android 5.1 skin. Also, it has a Pepsi logo. Because of course it does. It also looks like it has a fingerprint scanner, and every ounce of me hopes the lockscreen asks you to "take the Pepsi Challenge" when you wake it. Bonus points for a soda cap sound effect every time you successfully unlock it.
Pepsi has confirmed to Reuters that the leak on Mobipicker above is legit, saying the brand is being licensed to a third party for manufacturing. The 1299CNY (appx. $200US) phone will go on sale in China later this year along with a slew of Pepsi-branded accessories and apparel as part of a major international brand push for Pepsi.
Do you get a Free Pepsi if you buy it,.?
pepsiman ringtone by default?
Got to give it to China, they do seem to make what people pay $500+ for for dirt ass cheap, and sometimes the quality can be exceptionally good. I'm super impressed with the Oneplus One.
Even the phony knockoff watches and shit they do aren't the worst in the world

Even knowing it's fake I'd buy one of those if I saw it

Rolex/brand watches are more of a status symbol sort of thing. It's like buying a fake iPhone, kinda stupid I think.

A fake Rolex is still a status symbol if you're the only one who knows the dirty secret
A fake Rolex is still a status symbol if you're the only one who knows the dirty secret
If you live a life of lies, yeah. Otherwise it's kinda sad.
Rather have an Omega myself, far less flashy
I'd much rather take a Nomos, I can't stand the gaudy embellishments on "high end" watches.
The mechanics inside might be very impressive but the casing is bloody ugly.
I want one of those round watches with a thin black leather strap. They cant be found anywhere here and I love the simple look they have.
God save the Chinese counter feits

I have a fairly good-looking simple watch that I sometimes use when the battery in my current one runs out (except now the battery in it is empty again too, and unfortunately neither easily replaceable nor chargeable. Maybe I'll look into getting it switched some time).
It was a petrol station promotion and we got at least two of them for free. The other one I managed to accidentally destroy, and this one lost a tiny hand from the included stopwatch that sometimes gets jammed between the others, but otherwise it's still fine after ~10 years
(I'm someone who doesn't care whatsoever how much something costs as long as it works (and preferably looks good).
I'd buy good knock-offs as long as they don't copy the brand name, but I'd also tell where I got it from if someone notices and thinks it's the real thing.)
