It has come to my attention that many people don't exactly realize how massive Alaska really is. It is 586,400 square miles of State belonging to the U.S.
But this is just a number, to which people will go "Sounds big to me." Not fully understanding how big it is. It is two times the size of Texas, which is the largest state in the Continental United States. If that doesn't convince you that it's bloody huge, here's a pretty picture to look at, including those of you in Europe as well.

Now, if that hasn't gotten how big Alaska is in your head, I don't know what will. I hope this has given some people a little more insight into the scale of states and countries.
Alaska is snowy, right?
WHY IS THIS FUNNY?
Indeed it is, it's very north, therefore, very snowy.
I know how to fix this problem...
MELT ALASKA!
It just goes to show how much bigger USA is than Europe.
norway and sweden looks like a mutated penis
If you count Russia and Asia as "Europe" then the US is heavily outmatched.
I am not sure what the point of this thread is. Sure, alaska is twice the size of texas, but... so what?
If you count Russia and Asia as "Europe" then the US is heavily outmatched.
Asia is a continent, of course 2 continents will outsize one country.
Somehow reminds me that a lot of poeple still not realise that Alaska and Russia are seperated just by a 40 mile gap.
Thanks, another thing I never wanted to know.

Or where you'd end up if you were to constantly fly "south" from america.

Europe: 10.180.000 km² USA: 9.629.091 km²
ummm, were you so dumb that you used a distorted flat map projection to show the size of alaska compared to a globe projection of the U.S?
think of the distortion, its actually only a little bit bigger than texas and oklahoma
I didn't make the map. And no it is not just a little bit bigger.
Texas= 268,820 square miles
Alsaka=586,400 square miles
Gosh darn it stop ruining my maps with your penis Jimmy!

They actually have a name for that: Eurasia.
Also I wonder why Russia sold the U.S Alaska... Big peice of land, would've been useful during the Cold War too. Though when it was sold this was before the USSR formed.
I also wonder what happened to all the Russians living in Alaska after it was sold.

The point is to inform.
As I recall, they bought Alaska from Russian empire.
I wonder how much did it cost.

lol at you acting like the Cold War was planned from the beginning. Considering it was sold in the goddamn 18th century. :downs:
But the Russian Empire really sold it just for the money, because they were at war with someone (Swedish empire if I recall correctly).

Just $7.2 Million, but that was worth more back then.
I've been to both states, an annoying 9 hour flight between Texas and Alaska
Alaska was amazing as fuck
But it is cold.

I doubt Russia is 40% considered Europe
I hope this informative thread isn't going to drift into "my landmass is bigger than yours" posts.

All of russia up to the Ural Mountains is considered European.
European Union is not Europe, it's a part of it.
It amazes me how ignorant most of Americans are.

Yes, but if global warming keeps on going at this rate, it will soon become a warm, fertile region with lots of natural resources.
