Haven't watched the video yet, but I just need to preface this with saying Devilman: Crybaby was one of the most unique experiences I've had while watching an anime. It muddles the line between absolutely bizarre, action-packed, funny, and soul-crushing tragedy.
It's far from perfect, but it doesn't need to be. Definitely worth a watch even for people who don't watch anime regularly.

Good video, but wow, yeah, spoilers out the ass in this video by the end. He also showed too many scenes that while out of context don't seem important, are actually significant 'holy shit' moments in the show.
Just go watch the show now and come back and watch the video later. You especially want to be caught off-guard by the donkey noises scene like I was lmao.

yeah he basically spoils the entire ending if you spend more than 10 seconds thinking about it, along with the sheer amount of important scenes he just throws around id definitely watch Devilman first then come back to this
I just finished watching this series, I think it's a blast all the way through. It's definitely intense, in every sense of the word, like the series is an assault to the senses, and it stands as such a complete departure from the mainstream tendencies in anime that I think a lot of people will not like it.
I think one of the most impressive things about it is that, it actually respects the original material quite well, it follows all the same story beats, uses a lot of the same designs, and even in some scenarios recreates the actual panels of the manga. And at the same time, it updates both the plot, the characters and the setting to the modern day in a way that works perfectly well, like, you wouldn't know this stuff was written almost 50 years ago unless you actually went out of your way and read about it.
It makes such bold decisions in terms of style, animation, palette, storyboarding that it just shocked me at times, its style doesn't always work but when it does it makes for some very unique looking scenes. And it's also so completely unbridled with its content it almost seems shocking that it was made in this day and age where every single anime has become so flat, and tame, and safe, and predictable. This series just doesn't pull any punches, and I think the reviewer is right in that this can only exist in Netflix. And it's not just that there's a lot of blood and gore and tits, it has that, but it also does it in a way where it doesn't feel juvenile, it's been a while where I've actually winced at anything I've seen in an anime, this series did it.
It's not perfect, it has its lows, but the highs are so damn high that it is worth watching it all the way through, I haven't enjoyed an animated series like this since the 90's, and I really hope that Netflix keeps stuff like this coming.
Jesus christ I just binged the show before watching on Kane's recommendation
I haven't felt this kind of ache since the end of NGE. I was honestly avoiding this show based on the quick Netflix blurb, just seemed mainstream trashy for some reason. But I'm honestly really glad this thread popped up. It's absolutely gonna be one of those pieces of media I'll cherish forever.
Accidentally started watching this at 1:00am, and then I accidentally finished watching it in the same sitting because it was that good.
I wouldn't want my mom to know though.
