This is by far my favourite Christmas Tradition since hearing about it last year.
The guy who burned it down last year was fined 80 000kr (around 8600$).
This year it only survived a few hours :v:
I remember Joel of Vinesauce talking about this last year, I think he even pulled up a feed of it burning when it happened while he was streaming.
Every year the only thing I hear about the goat is short comments like "welp it's burned down again" and sighs
Oh hey, I went to high school there! I live less than an hour away and the bus I commuted by passes right by the road he's standing next to. The school itself is like a few hundred meters away as well. Neat :)

Why people decides to burn it down??
Why people decides to burn it down??
by now it's tradition. also people showing off in front of their friends i guess.
Why people decides to burn it down??
It's a big thing made of kindling that ignites super easy and burns super fast If you have a twisted enough mindset, why not try and burn it down?
It's a big thing made of kindling that ignites super easy and burns super fast If you have a twisted enough mindset, why not try and burn it down?
You're the little voice, aren't you?
Why people decides to burn it down??
Like Toyhoo said, it's sort of a twisted tradition. Every year it gets torched faster than the year before, the organization who maintain the goat have tried numerous security measures such as impreganting it with anti-flammable fluids, hiring guards to patrol it and erecting riot barriers around it. Nothing works. However it should be noted that most of the time the person/people who torch it does end up getting caught by the cops and fined.
Honestly by now I'd just have stuffed some of those anti fire bombs in it
You're the little voice, aren't you?
N-no
Because "Hey, It's flammable! Why not burn it?!" :smug:
That's beautiful that immediately it cuts to him saying "The goat is burned down." :v: Was it him?
That's beautiful that immediately it cuts to him saying "The goat is burned down." :v: Was it him?
I think he said he was on the plane when it happened, so unfortunately not.
I think he said he was on the plane when it happened, so unfortunately not.
That's what he wants you to think
http://www.thelocal.se/20161128/swedens-christmas-goat-burned-down-on-opening-day

Organizers said that the culprit managed to get past security when one of the two guards patrolling the area left briefly to go to the toilet, and the other one was on the other side of the goat.

??
they should honestly just make it a tradition to burn it on christmas eve, maybe then people wont burn it down right away.
Won't work. look at the valborg bonfires. gets lit before valborg 50% of the time anyway.
this year was a record fast time for burning it down too. They had this mega fucking celebration for its 50th anniversary with live musical acts and famous people visiting it and hoping that it would last the entire christmas season. And it got burned down an hour later :v:
Such a shame it happened so fast this year. I studied there in 2012 and it's pretty cool to see in person. You can also buy a mini straw goat at the local Ikea (which my friends and I proceeded to set on fire)
I now understand why my Swedish aunt sent us a small straw goat. I can see why people want to burn it down. It just looks so, burnable. It's a silly 'tradition' though, at least let it live a few days before burning it down.
