I've gotten back into digital painting as a side hobby and I'm doing lots of thinking about how to apply methods and techniques to my photography without things being blatantly noticeable
alternatively, photography applied to painting for a surreal effect
hmmm

helped my flatmate make a short film thing for his course; i did all the photos and video editing, he's the one in the video and doing the voiceover. i think it turned out not too bad, especially considering it was my first ever attempt at properly editing video and the whole thing was done in like 2 or 3 days :v:

yeah the sound is awful, the voice part was recorded with a phone
The style is really nice, quite pleasing to watch.
Thought i'd let you know I was rejected from both my first and second choices for uni both today and yesterday.
shit sucks.

That sucks, you can always work hard into whenever you get into and try transfering.
Seems like all universities everywhere are getting over-applied. Literally everyone I know who's looking to get into a post-grad or transfering is getting rejected by everyone they applied to. Got a friend who has never gotten below an A in theoretical physics at the 3rd best university in Europe and was rejected from doing a MSc at every single UC institute :v: shit it tough this year.
Did my first ever professional shoot today, went well I think! For a mates clothing brand he's just started up, will be showing some of the work soon :)

I know that feel bro, everyone's getting their acceptance letters and here I am getting denied from my second choice and just now I got denied but waitlisted for my first choice. Which I was supposed to have fucking guaranteed admission to (Compact for success). I think I fucked up somewhere on my transcript or I didn't take this ELM (Entry Level math) test. But my counselour told me I can just pass my current mathematics class and it'll count for passing for ELM. So fuck.
My mom applied to school for me and somehow I got in without them ever receiving my SAT scores
I wrote an article thing that applies rather strongly to photography I reckon:
nothing that she does involve the insatiable desire to create.
Can you really make such a strong conclusion about someone that you only know as simply a former-school-mate?
seems a bit crude to try and separate people into two groups of those who make things and those who consume things, we all do both
To me I feel like consuming activities have creation in them, but people don't look deep enough into it. Like exercise for example. You can enjoy it, but why? And one answer could be because of the way it makes your body look (creating a new image of yourself that you enjoy).
I think it's a matter of perspective, and transforming why you enjoy something from "why you like it," to "what you get out of it personally, and why it's important."
I agree that I pushed the point a bit hard in an attempt to make it read better (and it turned out to be rather offensive whoops...).
bopie, "insatiable" is a rather important word in that quote, I'm sure that there are things that she likes making, but I don't think that it's those things that are her daily fundamental motivator.
I do agree that everyone does both, but I'm sure that you can notice that some people (like many on this subforum), push creating so much harder than a lot of others.
And one thing that I'm not sure that I clarified enough, is that I don't think that there's anything wrong with either approach, I think that people are simply different.
Heeeeey remember when I used to post here? And that I never improved and then shelved my camera and haven't really touched it in months???

i don't think it's very good to be asking others to be creative for you. perhaps photography just might not be your thing?
I'm not asking for people to be creative for me, I'm just unable to decide on what to do, always have been. I'd like a topic or something to focus on. "Take a picture of X" "Use X technique" etcetera.

ah, so you just need a finger in the right direction?
well, there's a shit load of things you can take pictures of. perhaps you should find a good friend to model for you, and you can experiment taking photos with them? maybe land-scape/city-scape? you could also drop a bunch of ideas into a hat, pull one out, and go with that.
which reminded me, we need to get a competition going; the fall colors one didn't turn out too well. i'm not sure if that's because people were uninterested due to the topic, uninterested due to the fact that there was no prize, or just uninterested in a competition, period. either way, it'd be nice to see another arise, we can't really finish the fall colors one seeing as how it's not really fall anymore, or at least it isn't in the US. i guess anyone south of the equator could finish that competition though.

Tbh. you are less likeable to me after I read that.
Her values are fueled by a desire for safety and stability. This contrasts drastically with me. If I were to have a stable, average, job living a stereotypical idealistic lifestyle, I’d see that as a failure. I don’t have any attraction to a run-of-the-mill middle class life.
5 billion people on the world are longing for a "stereotypical idealistic lifestyle", most of them don't even dare to dream of the richness that is that "boring" life.
Furthermore you come off as someone who just can't value work. And I don't mean "creative" work, I mean work that requires mindless, boring and repetitive labour for years and years. Did you ever think about who cans and packages the food you are eating, sews the cloths you are wearing? That is the mindless work that is required to keep the world running.
And don't tell me that this kind of work is included in your usage of "creative" because I am pretty damn sure you are not surrounding you with 42 year old Jimmy Jenkins who can't be arsed to get out of the driver job he had for 15 years because ah well he kinda hates the sitting and he has 30kg too much because of that but change is difficult, yeah yeah, Frank just offered him to work at the facility service but what good is that? Funny thing: He just delivered your next camera along with some film, he "created" that service. No I don't think he's friends with you.
we find that fact very easy to forget
You seem to know that but you don't seem to realize it (which are two very different things) and here's where it shows:
our perspective to both what we have made and what others have made can be dramatically different from the consumers
Your camera. Your fuel. Your electricity. Your education. Where do you think that comes from?
You are a consumer just like everyone else.
Trying to make yourself look like you aren't just says that you didn't think this through.
And one thing that I'm not sure that I clarified enough, is that I don't think that there's anything wrong with either approach, I think that people are simply different.
But of course in the back of our minds lingers the knowledge that "creating" is considered a good thing. You know it. I know it. We know it. If you don't have the balls to value your own statements, don't make them.
Of course you and I and a lot of other people are better than fat 24/7 TV watchers, stupid stoners, shavs and the other scum of society, but we are not better than the "consumer" who works his ass off for years and years in a "run-of-the-mill middle class" life and job, whatever background led to that.
You can't make differences between people without evaluating them in some form, the logic consequence of a difference is a value.
The moral solution to that predicament is realizing how miniscule, stupid, artificial and inane most (but not all) differences are.
You are longing to be "creative"(using your definition here). Your friend is longing for stability. Point is: you are both longing and working for what you want and desire. You are the same.
