And he’s been doing his part to make that happen. The idea of the British Overseas Territory joining the Great White North is not a new one. In 1917, prime minister Robert Borden tried to persuade Great Britain to let us annex the lands, but was given the brush-off. In 1974, a private member’s bill from NDP MP Max Saltsman examining annexation of the Turks also failed. And, according to The Globe and Mail, the Turks and Caicos Islands sent a "serious offer" to discuss joining Canada in the 1980s, but it was "politely ignored" Goldring told the Post’s Tristin Hopper that a Caribbean province could mean development of a strategic, deep-water trading port for Canada and do wonders for national unity. "Canadians holiday north and south, they don’t holiday east and west," he said. "So we don’t get a chance to meet and greet each other on a regular basis. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a common destination in the south?" I'd love a tropical province, I'd move there so quickly.
Hey, the yanks did get Alaska. And if the people there find it beneficial to become a part of Canada, we'd be glad to welcome them.

Strange, but interesting idea though.
If this goes through then the seperationists have lost all basis of argumentation.
You think WestJet would offer a decent travel package?
Tourism and development and stuff.
Apparently this is a pipe dream that Canadians keep bringing up but nobody in the Turks and Caicos really wants it or has even heard of the plan anymore.
I'd move there if that happened.
As someone who's lived in the Bahamas for nearly 10 years, this would be a bad idea. There's a lot of poverty and crime in the tropics. All they show on TV is the small little bits of tourist areas.
That shit wouldn't fly in a Canadian province.
Hugs and donuts for all!
If they're annexed; a huge trickle of idiotic immigrants would no doubt occur.

They have only 45000 people, the unemployment rate is only 5.4%, minimum wage is already 5.00$ per hour, schooling is already free and mandatory, the land mass is only small and like said in the article it could add various strategic ports. It's risky, but has the potential to be beneficial and nice in the long run. This is my uneducated opinion however, feel free to correct me because I can see me being wrong.

Then the rest of the province is indian reserve ghetto, mosquitoes, or nothing really all that interesting.
This sounds a lot more viable then that idea to annex Florida.
This sounds a lot more viable then that idea to annex Florida.
please do that too
Maybe fix the shit that's wrong in the provinces and territories we already have before adding a new one that's worse off than anywhere in Canada except the most ghetto reserves.
So it's like Manitoba. There's Winnipeg. It would be nice for them because the minimum wage would go up and welfare and shit but taxes would also increase heavily, I am sure it's not going to happen just pick the warmest place in canada and invest in summer tourism there
just pick the warmest place in canada and invest in summer tourism there
Nova Scotia has the warmest year round temps
make some artificial beaches and build hotels and casinos and advertise it i guess unless the warmest year round temps are like 60 F
If they're annexed; a huge trickle of idiotic immigrants would no doubt occur.
Don't you think that's a little harsh? They probably just want a change from the frigid environment.
Don't you think that's a little harsh? They probably just want a change from the frigid environment.
Hoping for sarcasm
make some artificial beaches and build hotels and casinos and advertise it i guess unless the warmest year round temps are like 60 F
Warmest year round temperature doesn't mean warm just less cold than the rest of Canada
Warmest year round temperature doesn't mean warm just less cold than the rest of Canada
Well 60F would be about the yearly average for Victoria, BC
I live on Cape Breton Island (it's in NS) and it's 32 C here today.
Well 60F would be about the yearly average for Victoria, BC
15ºC sounds about right, It's pretty mild here.
