We know, I know, R&B is the posterchild for the 'oh so horrible' pop genre. But dig a little deeper, and you'll find something filled to the brim with emotion and passion!!
Since it's debut in the 40s the genre has had it's ups and downs. In my opinion it has PEAKED in recent years.
If we put aside Chris Brown, Akon and all the other horrible superficial R&B artists, we begin to reach the core!! A place void of businessmen and record companies. A place where artists make tunes with love and passion!
Oh, loveable Indie R&B, how could I live without you?

There's good mainstream R&B out there .. but I won't get into that.[/SUB]
Hope there are other people here on FP who share the same passion as I do!! ♥
share the same passion
If you have that passion. Please cover more than just last year's R&B.

'Indie R&B' has only been around of 1 year
Indie as in Independant Label yes.
But not Indie as in a style making it different from other genres.
Also SBTRKT is kind of Garage/Dubstep.
SBTRKT is post dubstep IMO.
SBTRKT is post dubstep IMO.
Yeah that's actually a viable genre. But it's a bit garagey too.
R&B is oh so horrible.
IMO.

What?
Have you honestly been through the past and listened to it. Or are you referring to pop artists.
SBTRKT is post dubstep IMO.
ok i'll be honest .. I seriously can't tell the difference between Post Dubstep and Indie R&B, both of the blogs post about the same music. might just be a very fine line for all I know.
Also artists can make more than one genre.
there's no such thing as Indie R&B.
[editline]1st November 2011[/editline]
Frank Ocean is a soul + R&B singer. That is all.
[editline]1st November 2011[/editline]
Jamie Woon is a dubstep + soul artist.
[editline]1st November 2011[/editline]
I did like Mirrorwriting a lot though, there's some really fresh sounds on it.

Well obviously there's a thing called Indie R&B. It's the fanbase that is trying to label this new sound that they fell in love with. just like indie rock.
but yeah, I get what you're trying to say.
Yeah, but Indie Rock is distinguishable from ordinary Pop Rock or Alt Rock.
This fanbase is trying to say "Dubstep With R&B" is Indie somehow.

Dubstep is kinda rooted in garage.

Ak'z you may be able to answer this, it's relevant to the thread. What is the difference between soul and R&B?

Soul music is the fusion of R&B and Gospel styles. There's a clear difference between Contemporary R&B like Janelle Monae:

and soul

^atmospheric soul I discovered a few days ago. :D
There's a crapload of R&B in the 80s that I haven't discovered.
Everyone thinks it's just Prince and Michael Jackson who did it right, but there's a whole world more than those two.
A song i've really been diggin' is Shalone -- People
it isn't on youtube atm though http://hulkshare.com/pwaxuiovhkil
pretty good imo

Drake has R&B elements but in essence it's still Hip-Hop.
Nicki Minaj does R&B too and quite good at it.
