Doesn't matter if you fly, drive, or scoot across the water, post your cars/planes/helis/quadcopters/boats/etc! I've been in the R/C hobby for half my life, and am an expert on many facets of the hobby. My collection ranges from a 20+ year old RC-10, all the way to a gasoline powered monster. My planes range from a simple trainer plane to a 100mph dual motor jet. For now, since it's late at night for me, I will just post my video of my gasoline monster, my Savage Octane. I will update this later tomorrow, when I have light and time to drag everything out. Oh, and any noobies or people looking to get into it, ask away!
Was hoping a thread like this was to pop up, but I didn't feel experienced enough to make one myself. Recently jumped into the hobby myself, while I understand that certain hobbyist don't like em, I own a DJI Phantom 2 Vision: (Excessively messy desk) [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4249868/ShareX/2015/02/2015-02-10%2017.51.36.jpg[/t] Hope to eventually get into commercial drone photography and perhaps video, if I can eventually get the license required to do so. Also pictured is a little UDI Nano RX4 I bought to practice a bit more manual flying. May attempt to assemble my own at some point, but for now I think I'll just keep practicing my flying.
There's nothing wrong with the dji. I know a lot of hobbyshops don't like them since they're hard to get on the shelf. They fly nice, built nice. Sadly people abuse the fuck out of them for whatever reason.
I bought one of these a while ago. Didn't read the manual, didn't know what trim adjustments were. Tried it out for the first time outside. It just kept going whatever which way. Fell in a field. Couldn't find it. :downs:
Sadly people abuse the fuck out of them for whatever reason.
This, IMO too many people buy Multis, Heli's, or any R/C stuff in general thinking they're just 'toys'. And if there is one thing I can say about RC stuff is that they're fucking not. These things can go far, go out of your direct vision and potentially injure or even kill somebody. I don't care if they've got auto GPS controls or low battery fail safe. As the pilot you are completely responsible for the safety of yourself, the people around you and your machine. I haven't heard of cases regarding multi-rotors but RC Helis have and will cause death due to pilot error. Secondly, these things have a fucking steep learning curve. That $2000 price tag does not include the talent nor skills to fly. Just because it looks and advertised as consumer friendly, don't assume it is. Learn your local airspace, fly in a wide open space and refine your skills before trying anything else. Back to topic, I'm thinking of getting myself anything RC soon but I'm not sure what yet. The only thing holding me back currently is that the club meetups here are quite far from where I am and I still haven't got my timetable and transport organized.
Well, quads are extremely easy to fly. It's one of my sales pitches for selling them. It's just that I try to preach responsibility. Also, here's my little hobby "corner". It's a small, small percentage of what I have. [t]http://i.imgur.com/exCd5Q3.jpg[/t] (don't mind the bowl of food. My cat's long dead :'(, i'm just immensely lazy) And two of my favorite planes i've ever owned: [t]http://i.imgur.com/2ITkUKf.jpg[/t] And a couple of my other favorites: [t]http://i.imgur.com/MjRmLp0.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/Pqvalk4.jpg[/t] I can't wait for the summer when I can get all these guys fixed up and running again.
And two of my favorite planes i've ever owned: [t]http://i.imgur.com/2ITkUKf.jpg[/t]
Those are awfully cute. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1031910/Plane%20Folder/IMAG0559.jpg[/t] Too bad I'm getting out of the hobby after 5 ish years, just don't have the disposable income I once had. I mean I just sold my Dx9 and Dx18xv2 and now Im just looking to get rid of all my larger plane stuff. I might every once and awhile toss up a good ol' super cub and fly it upside down. (Which is btw really fuckign hard when you have no alirons)
come join the master race and get some UMX planes. All the fun of the big boys with a quarter the price tag and 1/8th the size.
come join the master race and get some UMX planes. All the fun of the big boys with a quarter the price tag and 1/8th the size.
I am not happy with AS3X. I had a Yak 54 Carbon-Z the red white and blue one. And for giggles I put a as3x receiver in it from the upgraded model. I have been never been so disgusted in my entire life. After tons and tons of modifications to the receiver I finally chunked it in the trash and swaped back a regular receiver.
As3x, unless it came with it, is kinda crap, i'll agree. The beast and habu up there simply wouldn't be nearly as fun as they are without assistance. AS3x makes them fly like a much heavier plane, and in the case of the beast, allows me to fly in heavy wind. It's why I don't have any of those receivers on my shelf. AVC works pretty damn nicely though.
ryan cavalieri is my hero [editline]25th February 2015[/editline] also pro-line finally put out a slick buggy tire
That reminds me, My last car was a TT01 R heavily modified for rally uses. Had almost 20mm of ground clearence and took some bashing pretty well. Had a Castle Creation Sidewinder with a 9t motor. I thought it would be cool to have a car thats both capable of going off road, hitting 80km/h, and go on road with some height adjustment and tire change. It lost control during top speed trials and the whole front half of the car exploded. It hit 50 easily with 70% throttle and when I set the ESC to 100% torque steer came in and threw the car into a high speed barrel roll. Deemed uneconomical to repair so its now just little bits sitting in a box somewhere.

I did buy the full aluminum rebuilds for both of them the remove the slop in the plastic. Heres some pictures of them side by side with no shells, [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/KeXIRu4.jpg[/thumb] I've also got these special aluminum wheels that have adjustable offset. [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/ERJKMEm.jpg[/thumb] And something people think is cool. [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/oh8QteH.jpg[/thumb] I'd like to convert the TT01 into an off-roader for even more bash, but I've been lazy ever since I've got the TT02
Drove my savage today with some friends. One had a brand new arrma kraton, the other had a savage flux. my poor truck got fucked.
[t]http://puu.sh/gdFlc.jpg[/t] Heres my Baja, 30.2cc 4 Port best. Started after 2 pulls and has been sitting still for nearly 5 months! Ill post a vid or two when i get some time, work is an ass for when you wana do rc stuff. Losi speed NT in the background, aslo got a HPI Bullet MT 3. Edit: Heres the lot. [T]http://puu.sh/9MCYF.jpg[/t]
I'll buy that fucking 5b off you. I've been dying to get one but fuck 1000 dollars is a lot of money, and i'm not a cheap ass so i'm not getting a knockoff.
Quad expert, reporting in. Not a big fan of Phantoms (though not gonna lie I own a Vision+) because you don't go through the acclamation process that you do when you build them. Building them, especially for FPV purposes, taught me soldering, circuitry, aerodynamics, aerospace engineering, physics, RF engineering, etc, just by sitting on my ass and reading guides and tutorials on the internet for a year, versus plopping down $1k for something that just requires charging. Knowing how these work also gives you the ability to do ridiculous stuff with them. Last October, I won an engineering competition in UC Berkeley by creating a mind controlled drone in 36 hours. I wouldn't by any other clone than a KM, HPI's Baja its really over-priced for what it is. The only real differences in quality are the overall finish and the material used. But as you break something just replace it with a genuine part, the good stuff will last a long time while the lower quality parts will degrade after some good bashing. Get one. I'm in the UK and sourced RTR from www.rcmodelz.co.uk - If you are in the US you can get them straight from KM I believe.
Awesome thread so far. I asked my interesting sculpture professor at one point, "Have you ever been into RC?" and his response was hilarious, "I don't think any man has ever not thought about getting into RC at some point, you can't not have a small part of you that is interested in the getting in hobby." I've got an interesting idea. I think it'd be great fun to develop some kind of RC/automated economical moving targets for shooting sports. Nobody has developed something that is in the "affordable for everyone" price category of sub $200. I don't even know if that's possible to be honest but I think it could be.
There's nothing an rc version can do that a wire and pulley system cant do. It would be immensely expensive, even more so at a range because you know some asshole will "accidentally" shoot the car. That said, the army used to use traxxas emaxxes as mobile c4 carriers, before actual eod bots became a thing. They had a platform on the top that carried the c4, a release mechanism, and imex monster kong tires. The trucks had a little sticker on the bottom that said bombot and had a serial number. I've seen a couple of them come through my store. Traxxas, or the army, did a couple simple mods to them for their purpose: A high gear lockout, so it was only in low, and absolutely monstrously stiff springs. Besides that, they look like normal emaxxes, but are actually worth a little bit more. The kong tires themselves go for over 200 dollars for a set.
Oh no, I mean a RC wire and pulley system. All the delicate bits would be protected. I'd have to be some Arduino/RC system. I was thinking of something like a "clotheline" style system, with two deployable posts, with the motor and gearing in one, with a vacuum formed plastic silhouette target suspended on the line between, with the ability to use a remote to spin the winder one direction or the other, causing the target to move left or right, with the ability to randomize the movements as well.
I'm a little RC noob. I have the Parrot Drone 2.0 Elite edition and a Parrot Rolling Spider. Both are easy to fly so they are fun.
AR-Drones are super easy and hard to fuck up. I was thinking about getting the brand new one, but I'm pretty sure I'm just going buy a kit build one instead.
AR drones aren't really r/c as far as i'm concerned.
AR drones aren't really r/c as far as i'm concerned.
Why not? As far as I'm concerned, they're FPV quadrotors and the only difference between these and others is that you control it with a smartphone rather than a transmitter.
What's the best place to buy RC car stuff in the US? I want to get a TT02 and try getting it all set up for drifting/looking really pretty. At some point I want to see if I can get an FPV setup working, because FPV RC drifting seems like it would be fun as hell.
I alwase used hobbyking US and China warehouse for alot of things, and got my local hobby store to order me or w.e the expensive nice ohhhhh things. So example is. Buy plane at local store. Buy replacement and better servos, props, batteries, anything and everything from hobbyking. I litteely have a 4x8 enclosed trailer that my rc shit is in and it's almost packed full. With onboard 12v and solar panels to keep the 3 deep cycle batts happy.

I've been looking for a good place to buy some 1/16th scale tanks.
I've always loved RC, but never really got into it. I would really love to own a RC Drift car. Everytime I watch a RC Drift video I really want to get started with it.
Is HobbyKing a decent seller? They are the goto place for smaller items like batteries and that kind of assortment. Granted I have bought a few of their planes and yes they do work great once you look over it for 8 hrs just tinkering with it to make it fit your needs. I'm going to guess their tanks are going to be plastic crap like every one else's tanks.. no offense.
