I've had this for as long as I remember, I only found out it had an official term recently.
Synesthesia is essentially a condition which allows those who have it to - fuck it just read it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synesthesia
For me, I can visualize the physical appearance of things that otherwise do not have physical being. This includes sounds, measurements of time (such as days, weeks, months, and years), and voices/words. I've also found that I also hear a sound for various facial expressions and will "hear" a general clicking, thumping or otherwise basic sound when somebody touches something that does not make a true sound.
It's kind of a neat condish to have, there are really no drawbacks and it allows you to much memorize things much more easily.
Just wondering, does anybody else have this? And if you didn't know there was an official term for it, now you do.
Here's a drawing I did a while back of the kind of stuff an entire song can look like:
Edit:
According to TropicalV2, I'm lying. Apparently he knows more about what goes on in my brain than I do. So I guess I was only hallucinating all of these hallucinations. HE IS AN EXPERT AFTER ALL.
I think I have the colour one.
Are there any drugs that can induce this? With no side effects or physical dependencies of course.

Inception
Writing, words to some degree.

I've never done drugs ("DERP U FORGOT ASPIRIN AND TYLENOL DUMBASS!") but I am aware that drugs like LSD will have similar effects of synesthesia. The thing is that these drugs will actually produce a quite obvious rendition of synesthesia's effects. Effects from the actual condition are more sub-conscious and you won't actually SEE things in your vision from sounds. It's more like a second sub-conscious vision where you see and hear things.
Oh yes, I have a very overactive imagination.
Helped me alot with stuff like spelling tests when I was little.
I can relate to this.. Or is it just awareness for some people? Some deeper awareness.
Human brain is a fascinating little thing, no doubt.
I used to visualize words as abstract images when I was little (I thought the word 'maybe' looked like a Duracell battery).

Your post tasted bad. :v:
I don't know, I think I see colors when I listen to music.
I've got it. It's pretty weird, hard to describe. I mean, how can you accurately explain why a song makes you feel 'blue' and them not assume it's because you're sad?
Once after I ate some sour cream that was 13 months past it's expiration date.
I associate numbers with colors and musical notes.

e.g. red + green = 5
[editline]16th December 2010[/editline]
also with horizontal positions

Oh god, this one time I tasted Transformers 2, it tasted like sugar that's been soaked in barbecue sauce and mustard.

red + green is 11 what are you on.

Extra sour cream.
I picture a guy singing every time I play guitar.
It's weird.
No, but I have weird case of autism. I can't write for shit on paper at all, but for some damn reason I can read an entire 600-page book in under 30 mins and understand and memorize it for a long time to come. I also have 20-15 vision, maybe that has something to do with it.
I can also remember a few months ago, I got really into Modest Mouse, because the effect it had on me from my synesthesia was so intense that I grew used to it. Then, I was separated from electronics for a weekend and I got sick. Took medicine after medicine, the only thing that made me feel better was listening to "Good News for People Who Love Bad News".
It was fucken weird.
Hey ForgottenKane, rate this post optimistic too. The button should be right down there V
Anything becomes colours to me. I can describe a potato as grey, for example. Thanks for letting me put a name to the 'ability' OP [img]http://static.facepunch.com/fp/ratings/heart.png[/img]
I don't get this at all.
Well, when I'm baked I can taste colors and hear numbers.
You lucky bastard. I would kill to have synesthesia.
I kinda have it. In my mind's eye, certain sounds or beat patterns make shapes/objects.
But not always.
Actually, just today I was listening to a song and a certain guitar pluck sounded like a robin's egg blue pill thing.
I have it. I think. What shape did I associate with Synesthesia again? On right, trapahexadecagon.
I don't have this but I did this test and my answer was contrary to 95% of everyone who takes it
i thought everyone had this
[editline]16th December 2010[/editline]
cool
I have the thing with dates. I have a strange kind of calendar that I automatically visualize in my head. Maybe a few other things that I can't think of, too.
I've done projects on this, but I don't have it. I just associate a lot of sounds with colors and landscapes, though I'm willing to bet many people associate a lot of certain sounds with certain landscapes.
Hard edges denote warmer colors to me.
Is this like the thing where people can see, smell, and taste sound?
