• Current drama in The SKIES MMO

I thought you guys might find this interesting. The SKIES is an MMO that dropped early access on steam about a week ago. It features an player driven economy, but also has a VERY aggressive pay to win structure. We caught on to the secret that a few very quiet, very rich players were keeping to themselves, and we just dropped the news on their forums to see what happens next. They did NOT want to wipe servers because people have already purchased xp bonuses and in-game currency only to find that it is completely worthless. The video is below, and I'll post the forum where the devs are just barely starting to run damage control. Yes this is my video, and yes I'm posting it. Forum: http://steamcommunity.com/app/337950/discussions/ STARTS at about 1:10 seconds in
Is that a repurposed War Z?
Probably. It's insane to me that they roll out pay structures at a stage when bugs and exploits are SO common. It really shows how far we've come. Saddest part is that this game is actually kinda good. If it worked as intended, I had every intention to play even with pay2win in place, because I felt I was still able to keep up with hard work and smart decisions.
1:50 nice bulge
It'd be beyond fucking trivial to just reinstate any purchases, or the cash currency, that anyone's purchased using real money, after a wipe, just do it. "No, we're not wiping ever" in alpha is something I wouldn't even expect to hear out of a 12-year-old Rust kiddie server admin. I hope that whoever's made the decision not to wipe has never had this role in a previous game and we can write this off as a novice mistake. If it's someone with like 10 years of industry experience or something, what are you fucking doing

Also to update, apparently they are even more inept than we thought going into this. They have posted that a wipe will be needed now, and it really displays how inept they really are. Get this:
You did a great job by starting this story, by joining the game, by being the first, by helping us so much to test it and discover so many important sides that need improvement. But the issues that you've been facing - bugs in quests, rewards, progress and saving, economy, gaps where it was possible to cheat - all of that made your balance and progress not stable and unfair. We're considering making wipe, approximately in the end of this week (the exact date will be announced and will depend on our final fixes of some major issues). We realize that you've spent time playing the game and already put some efforts. Thus, we want to give you the gold according to your current level. 1 level = 5 gold. All purchases will be restored to the original values without any losses. This will mean that your efforts won't be in vain. We know that this solution differs from our initial plans, but please, accept it, because judging on the current situation and other players concerns it should be for the better - the functionality will be working smoother, there will be less gaps, less areas for cheating, there won't be huge numbers that you don't like and suspicious players with high progress - you'll be able to start it all the right way and also have the reward that will help you grow and progress faster. Some projects have wipes many-many times from alpha to beta and to release. This is probably not without the reason. In our case, we do want to make it more pleasant experience for you and rely on your understanding and readiness to be a part of the story that appears on your eyes whatever it takes. Will there be any other wipes? Yes, our next focus will be testing out the economy and after we polish it together with you another wipe will be needed, but for that wipe, we're going to save your level and, of course, provide gold again. Sincerely yours, "The Skies" team
Ok so what this means is, for players who have used this money exploit to gain better weapons, they naturally already have a much higher level than legitimate players because they can grind MUCH faster. Additionally, users like this: http://steamcommunity.com/app/337950/discussions/0/364040166669755208/ are literally taunting the devs choice to pay out users of this situation. He has 66666 in PREMIUM currency. To give you an idea, currently 150 premium currency is 10$. So this guy is already beyond loaded, and grinding bears to ensure that he gets even more when it rolls over. So the next step is for the devs to break out their drawing board and see what direction they head in next :3
