Wardell asked his friend, Taylor Ann Kelly, of Anderson to shoot him. She fired, and the shot from the small caliber weapon went above the Kevlar of the vest and into Wardell’s heart, killing him, McCown said. Wednesday afternoon, Kelly was charged with involuntary manslaughter. A conviction on the charge could carry a penalty of up to five years in prison.
Don't point a gun at something you don't intend to destroy. :v:
This is the most stupid thing I read all day.
Don't point a gun at something you don't intend to destroy. :v:
They were both to blame here. The guy for asking, the girl for doing.
I don't blame her. The person who asked her to shoot him should have had a better judgement of how well her aim was and just not ask her to do it in general.
I guess technically he didn't specify to shoot him in the vest.
Even with a vest on, can't bullets still crack ribs and cause major bruising? Why would you ask someone to do that?
I don't blame her. The person who asked her to shoot him should have had a better judgement of how well her aim was and just not ask her to do it in general.
it's partially her fault for even agreeing to shoot
Well at least she didn't aim for the head
Well at least she didn't aim for the head
probably would have been less lethal, doesn't sound like there was a lot in there to damage.
She really should have had the thought "maybe this is a bad idea"
"Small caliber" is probably code for a .22. If she actually hit the Kevlar, he would have been completely fine. This was stupidity, with a large extra helping of extremely bad luck.
I don't really see any reason to keep her in jail for this, it was consensual and I'm sure she'd never try anything like that again. Just ban her from possessing a firearm.
So there's no kevlar protecting the heart? Note to self right there.
I don't really see any reason to keep her in jail for this, it was consensual and I'm sure she'd never try anything like that again. Just ban her from possessing a firearm.
When you partake in a illegal contract, consensuality becomes irrelevant.
They should rename those things to 'sorta-bulletproof' to avoid being sued, that'll fix it.
They should rename those things to 'sorta-bulletproof' to avoid being sued, that'll fix it.
She didn't even hit him in the vest. SO the question if it would have worked has not been answered.
What kind of bulletproof vest does not protect your heart? That sounds like a stupid design or he wasn't wearing it properly
Scary that people that dumb are allowed to own guns.
Even with a vest on, can't bullets still crack ribs and cause major bruising? Why would you ask someone to do that?
That depends, for a small caliber handgun I think the risk is quite small
Bullet retardant
She didn't even hit him in the vest. SO the question if it would have worked has not been answered.
She did hit the vest, just not the part that has the kevlar. This is incredibly confusing.
Dumbasses
They should rename those things to 'sorta-bulletproof' to avoid being sued, that'll fix it.
there's a reason they're usually referred to as being bullet-resistant nowadays
Testing a bulletproof vest you 'found' by asking your friend to shoot you and she misses the vest but shoots you in the heart isn't normal but on meth it is.
When you partake in a illegal contract, consensuality becomes irrelevant.
Yeah, but isn't the point of jail / prison to rehabilitate people? This girl is pretty young and probably traumatised from killing her friend and will probably have mental issues from it. I don't think theirs a reason to punish her further, short of banning her from having a firearm.
Just to make things clear, they were not alone, there were other friends around and nobody thought that was a bad idea.
Yeah, but isn't the point of jail / prison to rehabilitate people?
no this is in America remember
:v: heard the full story on the radio
sad that such a dumb "hey what if-" moment is all it takes for some people to try something like this
