Whatdyall think of a 1992 ford probe w/210000 mileage as a project/fun car for me to learn about cars? 850 bucks for it. Might be able to get it for less. Opinions? According to seller it runs fine but we all know how that usually goes. Manual and I4 btw. Willing to strip the fuck out of it and work on it/fuck around a bit.
My brother had a Probe GT as his first car. It was pretty rad, actually. Unfortunately, my brother is the granniest of granny drivers to ever granny around grannyville, so I never really got to enjoy riding with him. Anyways, yours is a 4-cylinder japanese front wheel drive coupe, but unlike more popular ones it is pretty dry in terms of mods, and spare parts and guides are going to be harder to come by than, say, a Prelude.
I wouldnt buy one simply because I've hated that name for a car since - well forever. A probe... But isn't it like an eclipse or something like that? Or is that the Eagle Talon? one of those is like the same...
I've heard that Probes usually don't make it to 200,000 miles. They're not great looking anyway. They've only got flip up headlights going for them. You are thinking of the Talon, which was similar to the Laser/Eclipse
Probe is in bed with a Mazda chassis. They always worry me with high miles.. trans and engine issues that bury you in a money pit if the body doesn't rot out before that. However.. if the body's good and you wanna pull the engine and build it, turbo it, etc then that's chill.
I've heard that Probes usually don't make it to 200,000 miles.
I heard probe's are amphibious. Laser. You're right that's the one I was thinking of.
For what it's worth my friend just traded a probe with 180,000mi for a 1998 Eclipse with 160,000mi.. about the same shape for the body.
