EA's upcoming Medal of Honor reboot has attracted some controversy due to the inclusion of Taliban fighters in the game's multiplayer mode. A source has informed Joystiq that, in response to the backlash, GameStop stores in Army and Air Force bases will not stock the game. According to the notice sent to employees, "GameStop has agreed out of respect for our past and present Men and Women in uniform we will not carry Medal of Honor in any of our AAFES based stores." The notice specifically mentions playable Taliban fighters as cause for the pullback.
The affected stores will have "all marketing material pulled" and will no longer take reservations for the game. While the move showcases GameStop's sensitivity to the hot-topic issue, stores are nonetheless encouraged to direct buyers to a non-military store. "Customers who enter our AAFES stores and wish to reserve Medal of Honor can and should be directed to the nearest GameStop location off base," the note explains.
The full statement can be read after the break.
GameStop internal memo:
"GameStop has agreed out of respect for our past and present Men and Women in uniform we will not carry Medal of Honor in any of our AAFES based stores. At this time it does not include our 4 stores on Marine Installations. GameStop fully supports AAFES in this endeavor and is sensitive to the fact that in multiplayer mode, one side will assume the role of Taliban fighters. As such, GameStop agreed to have all marketing material pulled by noon today, and to stop taking reservations. Customers who enter our AAFES stores and wish to reserve Medal of Honor can and should be directed to the nearest GameStop location off base. Again we appreciate the sensitivity, and know our AAFES based stores will continue to honor the great customer base in which they serve."
they're just removing them from stores in Army and Air Force bases
not a big deal...
Have any of the soldiers complained about the game yet is is it just soccer moms that are bitching?
:911:
Misleading title. Edit it before it's too late. You have like five to ten minutes before it won't let you anymore.

Like you couldn't have, you know, included that in the title?
The title worried me.
The US military don't strike me as particularly sensitive to this kind of thing.
I don't get why we can play as Russians, Japanese, and other countries and everyone is just fine with it, but when the Taliban show up, it's all shit-storm stuff.
Just tell all the soldiers to buy BC2.
And the most misleading thread title of the year award goes to...

Because muslims are bad in soccer moms eyes.
Cliffhanger title.
You couldn't have added bases into the title? It's extremely misleading.
you can play as a terrorist in cod4
Oh for Fuck's sake...
You have a better chance of getting protests outside the Gamestops that aren't in US Military bases.
completely misleading title, I honestly expected badage boys.

You never know if little Muhammad on Johnny's team replaced the ball with a bomb or if he's using an explosive vest under that soccer uniform.
US Military bases have gamestop stores? What?
Our military bases here in Australia have open plains for shooting things in, guns, and lots of loud noises...
won't somebody PLEASE think of the CHILDREN

Isn't it obvious? If you play as the Taliban, you are obviously a terrorist in training and we don't tolerate you TERRORISTS here in AMERICUH! :downs:
Misleading thread title.

Titles can get a lot longer then that.

Some of our bases are like small towns. Except everyone that lives there is military or just works at the base.
I doubt any real number of soldiers were complaining about it. I'm pretty sure when FOX news was making a big deal about it, it was "golden mom" and she complains about everything.
This sounds way to much like bullshit.
Somehow I doubt this.
Our soldiers might convert to terrorists if they play it obviously
