Now I know you could just use a keyboard (which then again is not possible in vrchat) but something about this is pretty fascinating. Sign language in a coop stealth game would be pretty amazing
its why we so need hand tracking tbh

I'd love to see a VR SWAT game.

There are VR military shooters, but a full blown swat game like Intruder would be pretty fucking wild in VR
tbh once finger tracking is perfected and main-stream available, it would be pretty cool to see some games that teach you sign language as a gameplay mechanic. Imagine being able to cast spells or something by spelling out a sequence of letters in sign language

Not too long until we get something pretty good for hand tracking.
It's really cool how expressive these character models can be with VR

Probably way too expressive though.

Think about the difference between gaming in 1998 and 2008.
In 1998, the best we could do was Half-Life.
Just 10 years later, in 2008, came huge and ambitious games like GTA IV and Fallout 3.
If this is how VR is right now.... I can barely even imagine how mind-blowing it'll be in just a few short years.

If we ever reach the point where we have VR where we can actually feel things around us, even somewhat, things are going to get both awkward and terrible before you know it.
This is strangely adorable
it's really cool seeing people figure out different ways of conveying stuff and interacting with each other in VR

There are people currently working on a vr controller glove that is meant to make it feel like your actually holding an object. Idea behind it being that a motor powers sort of strings that strengthen as you put your hand around something stopping you from gripping further as you put your fingers around the object.

In The Magicians, they cast spells with complex finger movements. They meet a Deaf woman and the guy think she's casting a spell at them.

As if the number of anime characters on VRchat that just sit and embrace eachother and stare into eachothers eyes for fucking hours without talking isn't already terribly weird
Sign language has been super fascinating to me lately, so this is really interesting. [del]I'm not sure if they have a Knuckles controller or not. I don't think so, but I know those are out in the wild now. Although, I'm not sure how widespread they are.[/del] Watching again, they look like Touch poses to me.
Aside from more precise finger tracking (although you can get away with a lot using just the poses that you can make with the Touch controllers), the other thing missing with signing is facial expressions. The analogy I've heard is that signing without emoting in some way is like talking to somebody in a flat monotone, so you're missing a layer of communication without it. Body language already works well though with just the IK stuff that most VR MP games do.

God, you can see the frustration in the body language. VR is super neato.
I'm amused, my parents are Deaf and I'm fluent in ASL because of that. It's rather cute seeing them to use basic signs like that. The body language just shown by the arms alone is pretty great as well, but it's still lacking a lot.
I remember my Dad telling me how much he enjoyed Half Life 2 because he was able to keep up with the character's lips and the subtitles.

Makes it even sadder that no game since has topped it in terms of facial expressions and lipsync.
Nowadays even in the games with the best graphics characters just look like puppets with stiff faces.
What were they trying to sign anyways? I never figured it out...

According to the reddit post on the OP it was "I made this character" kinda like that
[editline]22nd December 2017[/editline]
I found it cute how that person tried to show off how they were trying to say "make" by making the bed
This is giving me such cyberpunk vibes. Because she communicates nonverbally and can only be seen via her avatar, she could be absolutely anyone. Since she moves so expressively she seems more alive and real

Ryse is really impressive with their facial animation.

In the Orbus VRMMO, spells have to be cast by perfectly drawing runes in the air out of your memory, one mistake will break it, so the towns tend to have people in circles practising and teaching eachother magic in like fucking Hogwarts or something

I can't imagine how disorienting falling down stairs in that game would be in VR.

its easy, take a few strong painkillers and throw yourself down actual stairs and it'll be just like in VR

Acting aside LA Noire's tech brings faces into the game. With refinement and proper use of the tech it would be pretty wild
W3 has some decent animations, the expressions are tight
GTA5 had some pretty good animations as well, not quite HL2 tier but decent
ROTR also has decent animations as well
with VR we may very much eventually see beyond eye tracking. We may even see mouth/lip tracking as well as full facial tracking (which I've heard of). The technology exists, just like the tech for VR existed for such a long time. it's simply a matter of pulling it out of the aether. With this? Comes Full body and full facial tracking, leading to fully expressive avatars. Even with how good VR is now, body and even the refined versions of hand tracking that's in beta is shit in comparison to where it may head.
So, with VR, we may see games easily go beyond what HL2 had, but only time will tell.
vr chat is so awesome. im glad its getting the recognition it deserves.

that'll be over once Lindenlabs starts chugging out SL 2.0 and shit gets... weird

they dont even need to make a SL 2.0. they can just fix up SL for VR because of how open source it is.
