Saw this discussed on another forum and thought it would be good to share. There's 10 volumes, with one being released every week, but they're all very good picks. Most essential metal albums of the 90s would be a more fitting title (unless they really think that the only essential 90s albums are metal albums) although I shouldn't be surprised considering it is a metal site. Anyway I'm not big on metal, but the few albums I have heard from that list are really good. Nice descriptions too.
Fuck yes, Rust in Peace is #1.
Uhm, is it me or Volume 7 actualy leads to Volume 1?
Here's the actual Vol. 7 http://community2.metalreview.com/blogs/editorials/archive/2011/09/11/the-most-essential-albums-of-the-1990s-vol-7.aspx

If someone can say which ones have harsh/brutal/whatever vocals i.e. death metal that'd be great
Why not just listen and see?
A lot of great albums on that list, though some seem to be there only because of their popularity rather than their quality IMO. Still, I'll work my way through that list some time
fuck yeah Need to Control is on there
I have 3 of those albums, but I don't listen to most of the types of metal there. I just can't enjoy death metal for some reason. Absolutely love thrash and progressive though, which explains Megadeth, Dream Theater, and Metallica. Now if it was a Quintessential 80s Metal Albums... oh boy.
any list with trouble on it is fucking amazing [editline]18th September 2011[/editline] coroner as well. good list
Anyway I'm not big on metal, but the few albums I have heard from that list are really good. Nice descriptions too.
Black Metal and Drone Doom are probably the most interesting imo.
GOOD black metal is. Ie, INRI
Disappointed at the lack of Still Life there, but some really good choices. Glad to see Destroy Erase Improve and Infinity on there.
What the heck, where's Painkiller?
no mayhem, burzum, or darkthrone??????????
no mayhem, burzum, or darkthrone??????????
It's opinionated, of course some stuff isn't going to be on the list.
hm interesting that there are no Death albums on there, but Cynic and Atheist made it at the very least.
It's opinionated, of course some stuff isn't going to be on the list.
. but they have satyricon and satyricon is shit
List is updated. Painkiller, Darkthrone and others added. So quit whining.
