MUSIC THREAD MUSIC Dánarfregnir og Jarðarfarir by Sigur Rós from Wiki
Post-rock is a genre of alternative rock characterized by the use of musical instruments commonly associated with rock music, but using rhythms, harmonies, melodies, timbre, and chord progressions that are not found in rock tradition. It is the use of 'rock instrumentation' for non-rock purposes. Practitioners of the genre's style typically produce instrumental music.[1][2][3] As with many musical genres, the term is arguably inadequate as a concise descriptor: for example, Don Caballero and Tortoise were among the more prominent bands of the 1990s described as post rock, but the two bands' music has very little in common besides the fact that they are both instrumental and centered on guitars and drums. As such, the term has been the subject of backlash from listeners and artists alike.[4]
In short, Post Rock is melodic, and calming music, but with some elements of Rock thrown in there. Its very experimental stuff, but that does not mean it down right awesome. Some bands I enjoy: Sigur Rós Godspeed You Black Emperor! Red Sparrows This Will Destroy You God is An Astronaut So far what us Facepunchers enjoy: Yndi Halda We Vs. Has anyone else noticed it's really hard to find post rock guitar tabs? The only bands I can find tabs for are EITS and Mogwai.

Fuck yeah, Godspeed you! Black emperor is fucking awesome!
Why does everybody think post-rock is "very experimental"? I like Mono.
because post rock is experimental, it derrives from experimental.
Experimental isn't a genre, how can something derive from it. Bah, never mind, I've already had this discussion in the avant-garde thread.
Experimental is just another word for "out there" and "unlike anything else"
^Which is exactly what post-rock isn't. Also, it's probably so hard to find post-rock guitar tabs because there's not very much guitar in post-rock songs.
Depends on what post-rock you're listening to I can't think of anything that sounds like "Moya"
Godspeed, fuck yea
I checked out all of them and I probably like Yndi Halda the most, from what I listened to.
They are my favourite post rock band. I love how they incorporate strings into their songs. It's simply beautiful.
Holy shit, Sigur Ros' singer is a guy!? :monocle:
I especially love Post-rock that's instrumental (like Mogwai most of the time).
A little departed and heavier than the post rock you guys are listening too but: Boris Isis Pelican Scraps of Tape Jesu These arms are snakes Anyone?
A little departed and heavier than the post rock you guys are listening too but: Boris Isis Pelican Scraps of Tape Jesu These arms are snakes Anyone?
I listen to Boris, Isis and Jesu, I think they'd be more "Post-Metal" than anything, although I guess it works. Metal is rock; Why can't post-metal be post-rock?
Based on your lovely recommendations I ordered a LITE album called Phantasia, now I just have to wait for it to arrive. :)
I listen to Boris, Isis and Jesu, I think they'd be more "Post-Metal" than anything, although I guess it works. Metal is rock; Why can't post-metal be post-rock?
Personally I think there is a lot of cross-over. Post-metal is just like heavy post-rock, that being said it's not always heavy. So I thought people might like to check them out =] EDIT: I wanted to post the post-rock bands I like but they've all been posted!
I personally like Mono, Mogwai, Sigur Ros, Explosions in the Sky, A Silver Mt. Zion.
Where are Slint in this list? I almost only listen to DMST nowadays, and as they are more indie-rock jazz I don't really listen to post rock.
This one's my favourite.
65 days of static is awesome post rock.
