Less than one week away from the election, a terrifying new poll reveals that more than two-thirds of registered Republican voters believe that people can be possessed by demons.
A staggering 68 percent of registered Republican voters stated that they believe demonic possession is real. Meanwhile, only 48 percent of self-identified Republicans believe in another equally if not more scary natural phenomenon: climate change.
The poll was conducted by Public Policy Polling, touted by NPR as “one of the most prolific polling outfits in the country.”
The survey was filled with enlightening gems about how the supernatural world may affect the upcoming presidential race. Women were slightly more likely than men to believe in demonic possession, although this gender gap is not nearly as wide as that of women’s preference for Obama.
In a classic example of cognitive dissonance, only 37 percent of registered voters–both Democrat and Republican–believe in ghosts, although 57 percent believe in demonic possession. This raises the question, which was ignored in the presidential debates along with other essential issues like climate change and the educational system, about what the possessing force would actually be. (Perhaps Karl Rove?)
For registered Republicans who do believe in demonic possession (which is, again, the majority), there is at least one standout elected official who is taking this issue seriously and has educated himself about spiritual exorcism.
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has written a first-hand account about witnessing an exorcism while he was in college.
“Kneeling on the ground, my friends were chanting, ‘Satan, I command you to leave this woman.’ Others exhorted all ‘demons to leave in the name of Christ,’”Jindal wrote.
Jindal made presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s short list for VP picks–but, according to the Associated Press, this story of exorcism was a strike against the governor. (The Public Policy Poll hadn’t come out yet.)
Delaware Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell also has considerable knowledge of witchcraft, although this expertise didn’t win her the race in 2010.
“I dabbled into witchcraft — I never joined a coven,” she said to ABC . “But I did, I did. I dabbled into witchcraft. I hung around people who were doing these things. I’m not making this stuff up. I know what they told me they do,” she said.
“One of my first dates with a witch was on a satanic altar, and I didn’t know it. I mean, there’s little blood there and stuff like that,” she said. “We went to a movie and then had a midnight picnic on a satanic altar.”
The poll also revealed that zombies are considered to be the scariest monster, another issue that has not been raised at all on the campaign trail.
Whether the two candidates will address these issues within the last week of the race remains to be seen.

We are all fucked.
Not surprising. Most of them think Obama is possessed.

"No wonder this country is going to hell with demon possessed fascist communist Muslim Obongo in charge!"
My computer is possessed by daemons
I would say that while humans aren't entirely to blame for climate change, we are certainly have expedited the overall process.
Oh no, now Rmoney found the secrets of witchcraft. Obongo needs to step up those Muslim prayers.

demons, DUH
Well of course they know.
It's hard to not know that Humans can be possessed when you are possessed.
Fucking awesome, lol.
What the fuck has happened to the Republican party.
Abe Lincoln must be turning in his grave.
You've got a bunch of people who think magnets are witchcraft and are pushing really, really hard for the dark ages to make a comeback.
And then you have normal folks.
where did they do this poll? I think that would have more influence on the results than political affiliations. Those numbers mean nothing without the Democrats' answers.
I'd call them degenerates, but this is actually the status quo for humanity; ignorance and insanity are par for the course in this backwoods backwater we call a homeworld. Gotta elevate yourself above humanity, make yourself more reasonable and intelligent; that is true intelligence, the true platform that intelligent beings should struggle to pull themselves up onto, not digging a hole further down into the stinking mud of the human baseline.

The issue is that that approach has been tried before. I don't know if this is true of the rest of Christianity, but the Catholic Church goes on endlessly about 'rising above mere humanity'.
My attitude towards such things? Such low levels of intellectual value are the result of Conservative fiscal policies. Budget cuts for education and healthcare. Tax breaks for the rich.
In the end, it results in a society where the only educated ones are the rich who wish to preserve their power and wealth, so they create enemies and demons for the uneducated, unwashed masses to set themselves against.
I am an advocate of critical thought, but am still very much human. The human 'baseline' as you call it is not a cess pit unless it is constructed to be that way.
Think of the rest of humanity in the way you do, and you're no better than Romney with his 47 percenter bullshit.
Nice biased source. How about the fact that 49% of Democrats believe in demonic possession, and that more Democrats believe in ghosts than Republicans? How about reporting on both sides?

There are responses from democrats available, this source just selectively excludes them.

Well, when I said "gotta elevate yourself above the baseline", that doesn't just apply to the select few; it applies to as many intelligences as possible. Every intelligent being should strive to be intelligent, reasonable, understanding and open. More importantly, everyone should have the opportunity to better themselves and raise the bar.
Do not think for a second that I sympathise with conservative ideals; they are inferior intellects who wasted their opportunity to elevate themselves in quite a few areas like sensibility, empathy, transparency, etc. I recall back in the 80's that English universities were apparently free, when the government actually wanted people to get an education, but then things went terribly wrong and now we have to pay up to £9k a year just for the privilege of being able to be on the course; to the best of my knowledge they don't pay for most of the things you need.
Sure, starting this year there was a free books scheme at UEL, and there are small bursaries, but it just doesn't seem enough to justify the 9k bullcunt. Hell, I remember when I used to get Educational Maintenance Allowance for attending college; I was essentially PAID to be at NESCOT, but nope, conservative ideals cancelled the EMA and scrapped that incentive. Still went since I wanted my qualifications, and the workload was reasonable enough to not deter me, plus I felt compelled to finish the work I'd started.
But that's beside the point; I despise, revile, deride and HATE conservatives, and would rather they all melted into Tango slurry. The cuts to education and healthcare should be considered a crime against humanity, especially in an era when the Earth's resources are starting to dwindle. Those resources could be used to solve issues of homelessness and joblessness; cutting back on the nuclear submarines could help fund affordable housing, ceasing to manufacture surplus Abrahms tanks could help construct better public transport, ceasing the war on drugs and regulating drugs could bring in so much stupid money to fund projects that benefited humanity, there are so many things that could benefit us if only we committed the capitalists and the conservatives and the religious extremists. There needs to be massive reforms in so many countries, but one can't truly know where to start; there are some dangerous ways, though most and probably immoral or illegal.
Preventing the High Inquisitor from winning the election, possibly at any cost, would be a start. Obama's probably not the absolute best, but he's the only sane option; it's either him or choosing from an assortment of mentally ill sun worshippers who cut budgets and string up heretics.

ever heard of the word 'verbose' ?
Your numbers are way off. In actuality, more than 100% of all true Americans believe in demonic possession, because a man without God is no true American.
the only ones who don't believe in demonic possession are those possessed by demons
Less than half of America believes in demonic possession, but the numbers are on the rise as nonbelievers are purged. Long suffer the reign of Belial!
Watching that video with the chanting in the background and Mitt Romney grinning is like watching one of Hitlers rallies.

Not to press too fine a point here, but you're grasping at some pretty loose straws. People chant at Obama rallies, too. And Ron Paul rallies, and at conventions, and at concerts, and at sporting events, and at just about any other damn activity where more than a handful of people with shared interests gather. I think Romney's a bit of a goofball, but this Godwin stuff is making you look like one too.
I mean, honestly. Hitler. Pfft. He's just an underwhelming lame duck Republican candidate. You might as well believe in demonic possession, if you think comparing him to Hitler is in any way not loony.

No i'm just commenting on how disturbing political rallies look sometimes. (and I don't like Obama or Ron Paul either)
Like really, chanting USA just seems wack.
It's not like chanting is exclusive to US political rallies, mate! Should I hop down to the local high school and tell the cheerleaders to put a lid on it, too?

if anything that statement just draws attention to the disturbing similarities of democracy and competitive sport

They're shouting some bizarre shite slogan immediately after booing at somebody whilst the camera is zooming in on the creepy dudes face.

Well, duh! What are you, new to this show? Democracy has always been a competetive sport. I mean, Christ, we've got rosters and drafts and bitter fan rivalries and everything. It's not just America--this is politics in general. Hell, it's life,
man. No matter where you go or what you do, you're gonna have cheerleaders waving team colors and people chanting. Might as well get used to the idea now.

See above.
See above.
I was just pointing out they looked similar, you don't have to get your knickers in a twist because I was comparing 2 political rallies to each other.
