I understand that Netflix is a corporation, a faceless entity without an actual soul, but hell if I haven’t fallen in love with the company. They’re my new favorite anti-hero. I actually find myself rooting for Netflix, as though it were a character in a meth soap opera, and if it were a character in a soap opera, it just bitch-slapped the Gus Fring with a healthy dose of passive-aggressive kindness.
Part of why I like Netflix so much (besides great original programming, obvs.) is that it’s out on the frontlines fighting for Net Neutrality. Granted, Netflix has a huge stake in the outcome, but I at least appreciate that their concerns line up with my own. They’re also looking out for their subscribers. Recently, they began alerting their subscribers to the fact that certain ISPs — like Verizon — were the cause behind slow connection speeds, applying pressure directly on the ISPs to improve their service or lose a subscriber. Verizon, in fact, is the worst ISP in North America in terms of Netflix connection speed.
Haha, my favorite part of the article must be
Dear Verizon:
Fix your sh*t. Don’t blame your crappy Internet on us. You are being assholes to your customers. We gave you the tools to improve your Netflix connection speed so use them, dipsh*ts, or we will make your life a living hell. If you thought the buffering alerts were bad, wait until you see what we have in store for you next.
Get it together, Verizon.
Kisses,
Netflix
Expected them to immediately drop the tiny message to not risk getting sued
Essentially it was Sincerely Verizon, go fuck yourself.
i hope we see more of the battle of corporations 2014 edition
It would be amazing if they banned all Verizon IP addresses with an explanation why. I would imagine that Verizon would be losing a lot of customers as a result.
Wow netflix, you beating up poor defenseless verizon.
Verizon is a small company trying to make a living and your going to sell lies?

Its why I have Comcast :suicide:
Good to see Netflix not taking shit from scummy Verizon.

THE AUDIENCE SCREAMS FOR BLOOD
YOUR KNIFE IS ALREADY DRAWN

Still: Enraged customers + News = Pressure = Verizon shutting up and getting their stuff sorted out.

The average consumer is more likely to cancel Netflix than go through the trouble of cancelling their ISP service - providing that there is a choice of ISPs in the first place.

Don't cut yourself on that edge.
This is probably the most professional Burn I have ever seen.

I have TDS.
I have no clue who they are either.

you don't punish your customers for the scummy practices of an ISP they're forced to use.
That traffic jam analogy made me chuckle.. because its true.
(also, Bridgegate anyone)

I wish I could change ISP's but I can't
but if they did even then I would personally still pay for netflix even if I couldn't use it
if they did this with Comcast next I wouldn't hate it since Comcast is more of an internet provider than verison and at moments shittier

Why pay for a service you can't use? That's just plain stupid.

That's like saying "I'm going to buy 3DSMax and never bother to install it."

I still don't get how Comcast thinks 300GB a month is "more than enough" for a big family".
Wow the internet situation in the US must suck, here in Sweden, we have 2-3 ISP's in every community and many more in the cities.
Wow the internet situation in the US must suck, here in Sweden, we have 2-3 ISP's in every community and many more in the cities.
US internet infrastructure is old and expensive in many places, most isps are too cheap to upgrade it and instead tack the price of upkeep and installation onto their customers.
Not to mention the huge monopoly that most isps have because the cost to install your own infrastructure is beyond reasonable.
American ISPs are a problem, and I'm glad to see a company who actually cares about its customers making a statement.

Like how AT&T's Mobile Family Data plan has only 10 Gigs.

I have unlimited data and I've never used more than 2 GB of data, and I use my phone a lot.
Considering the average nuclear family is 2-3 children and two adults, that's more than enough data for the lot. People who use like 10+ GB of data on their phones a month are outliers.

If you have an Android phone, set your bandwidth limiter to 5 GB and start watching Netflix.
You'll be shocked how fast it reaches that.
Why pay for a service you can't use? That's just plain stupid.
I would because I don't want to see netflix die due to a shitty ISP. Besides, the best way to fight a corporation is with another corporation....
