Title pretty much sums it up. But here's some more backstory. This weekend, the TF2Maps.net Third Annual Contest ended and thus gave me some free time for once to do something other than map. I found myself playing the L4D2 demo and staring at the abundant threads of sexual shenanigans among the General Discussion. Recently, I've also been watching lots of Zombie/Horror movies. Such as REC, Zombieland, etc. This got me into a writing mood and took the reins of my boredom. Now, the point of the entire thread. A write-up of the first 45 minutes of a Zombie film. No title thought up. Kind of a spin on all the recent "handheld films" such as Rec, Cloverfield, etc. This would take place during the events leading up to a Wedding and it's reception. A small group of friends are invited to an old friend's wedding. Having no connection with them over the past years. Unwillingly, they are chosen to film the Wedding and it's Reception for the Bride and Groom. The first few scenes show one of the friends testing the camera in the car while driving to the Wedding. During this, the person holding the camera comments on the lack of cows in the area, and adds that since they're in the middle of nowhere just makes it eerier. The group reaches the Wedding which is held in a small town in the north, where it starts to lightly snow as they get out of the car. Various scenes that introduce the rest of the major characters occur as they wait for the Bride and Groom to arrive. Typical wedding shots are filmed, although the camera is slightly too low to catch the "You may kiss the bride" part. Jump to the drive to the Reception. The group complains about all the sudden detour signs that litter the streets. They call another group on the way to the reception. No answer. "Maybe there's no signal out here?" Jump to when the group enters the Reception area. Everyone is still setting up, so the group heads outside for some air. They run into another group that is leaving the Reception because his wife complained of a headache. When asked about the group that they tried to reach earlier, they said that they couldn't reach them either, but were informed of an accident on the highway. The group assumes that to be the cause for all the detours. The camera is now filming the first dance. Everyone's fine and happy, until one of the guests vomits on the dancefloor. Their husband escorts them out where the couple are never seen after. Reception continues and the camera picks up a conversation between a young couple, saying something about the wine being tainted and got some of the guests sick. The group start to go around asking other guests about the wine. Some heard nothing about it and assumed it was just the bad weather that picked up after the reception started. Upon resuming necessary filming, the Group set the camera on a tripod and let it record the dances as they go along. The night goes on and the guests start to dwindle. The camera man picks up the camera from the tripod and carries it around, possibly to record a few more clips before packing up. He zooms in on one of the Bridesmaids who the camera man presumably has emotions for, and then notices that all of them are discussing something along with the Bride, some appearing in a form of emotional distress. The camera man's friend tells him to start packing up, as the clock ticks close to 11 PM. As the camera man packs up, the camera records the best man falling to the floor. A security guard tends to the man, and the group continues to pack up and leave. As the group reaches the doors, they're locked. They go up to the front desk, only to see nobody there. A friend of the group sees them in the building and frantically tries to get their attention, panicking due to the locked doors. The friend runs out to the parking lot, where he disappears into the remaining group of cars, only to return a few minutes later. The group notices a limp in the friend and cues the necessary "Oh my God... is he okay?" line. As the friend gets closer to the doors, the limp turns into a jagged sprint and he slams into the doors, vomiting blood against the glass. The group panics and runs back to the other guests. The Security denies access to the ballroom and a few shrieks are heard from within. One of the guests walks around frantically trying to get a signal on his phone. No luck. The group searches the building for employees. As a guest breaks through the wooden doors of the ballroom, they grab one of the security guards and begin clawing and biting them. The other guard panics and pulls out his gun, shooting his teammate and the guest in the torso. The group are escorted to a security room by what now may be the last guard. Upon arrival, they see ravaged corpses of the other guards, with broken glass sprinkling the ground from the broken windows. They reach a security radio, where it plays a message from a local news broadcast. "Remain calm, we've been informed that all people within the building have been evacuated and anyone with ties to this current predicament have been apprehended." The group tries to access any other guards outside the building, with no luck. As the security camera shows the ballroom doors now lying on the floor and broken, the group notices no trace of the security guard and guest that were previously shot. The group is now left on their own, with their only goals being to find the Bride and Groom, evacuate the building, and do this all without losing a life. Too long? Didn't read? Yeah, I got that a few times. So, I'll summarize it for the faint of heart: Distant friends invited to a wedding and asked to record it for the Bride and Groom. Strange shit happens. Guests become ill. A small group of survivors try to escape a locked Reception building. Zombies. This is all I have written, for now. 'Til boredom strikes again!
Thats epic
thats actually pretty cool
Pretty cool, but it would only translate to about 20 minutes of screen time. Reminds me of a short film I did a while ago, zombie oriented.
I get a camera [sp]and production rights[/sp] you get the actors. Facepunch Studios (Movies)
lol I wasn't expecting it, but that was pretty rad.
Please write the rest of that please.
I get a camera [sp]and production rights[/sp] you get the actors. Facepunch Studios (Movies)
Well, you don't actually have to get production rights. It could be just a little film of your own, like Marble Hornets. Except without a creepy guy in a business suit.
You should get a job with gabe
Pretty cool, but it would only translate to about 20 minutes of screen time.
Not if you drag it out as hell.
I expect 75% of profits. No excuses :colbert:
Nicely done sir.
This would actually be pretty cool to film in gmod. Whether it be realistic filming like "a few good gmen" or crazy animations like "Full Life Consequences", it would sure be a great movie.
Pretty cool, I'd watch it.
I expect 75% of profits. No excuses :colbert:
And I 20%
Too lazy to read...
and i 20%
10% :(
But from my skimming, looks good. :downs: [editline]06:06PM[/editline]
And I 20%
And to me, 5%.
Nice, I'd defiantly watch it.
Should get a bunch of people together and make a film...I'll work as a zombie for free!
Bitching, However, I hate the camcorder film style.
Bitching, However, I hate the camcorder film style.
I think its fine as long as its on a tripod
Bitching, However, I hate the camcorder film style.
It must be all or none. I love the "first person view" of filming. Cloverfield's camera work was, in my opinion, excellent. However I do realize this is very unique and it depend on the viewer.
I'd film it less like Cloverfield and more like REC/Quarantine, whereas there's less of a "Oh! It's his feet!" feel to the majority of the film. Not saying thats all that Cloverfield was, just that it could've been done better.
I'M SO STARTLED!! Cloverfield was fine, but Diary of the Dead did that style before, and better.
i disagree [editline]02:36AM[/editline] its actually the contrary
i disagree [editline]02:36AM[/editline] its actually the contrary
Diary was defenitly first, and I enjoyed that style much more. Quarantine and REC did it very well though, better for horror than Cloverfield.
i wouldn't call cloverfield a horror, but more so a sci-fi thriller REC was definitely the cornerstone, and was the scariest one for sure
2 or 3 more sessions of boredom and you have a decent film for yourself.
