When I think about this statement, I get an eerie feeling about myself. I almost feel like I shouldn't have a conciousness. We're made of atoms, elements and energy just as everything else is in the universe although we have somehow managed to evolve to become aware of what we are. If everything is apart of the universe, then we are apart of the universe and since we can observe the universe, we're the universe observing itself. Without concious entities there can be no way for the universe (me) to know that it (I) exists... A grain of sand on the beach isn't aware of its existence so why would a planet or a star or the universe as a whole be aware?
Imagine a rock somehow managed to become aware of its own existence, would it also think its special? Or would it recognise that it too is just apart of the universe? Sometimes I really believe that I am just a component of the universe which the universe decided to create so I can observe myself. Maybe mankind thinks we're special because we have this ability... I guess we're all just cogs in a greater working machine.
