Fuck man, I love SA2.
Definitely hasn't aged the best though.
"The moon rotated so you can't see that it's blasted in half."
Suuuure, more like there's little to no connection between all these sonic games.

Only thing that aged well were the speed sections. The shooting stages got more noticeably clunkier as the years went on, and the treasure stages are either a real quick blast with nothing too complicated or a gigantic, overly large mess with an asshole 'one emerald/key at a time' radar.
I don't know when I was a kid I thought it was a fun game.
I play it now and I realize the difficulty I had when I was younger was just because of bad design
Man, I need to replay this game at some point. I fucking loved it when I was younger.

You're gonna be disappointed I think.
This is one game I can confirm is heavily affected by nostalgia goggles.

Easy explanation added to that could be that the force of the explosion caused the rotation. Can't have an action without a reaction.

Yeah, my expectations aren't exactly high. Looking at what other people in this thread have been saying and even the video itself, it certainly looks like the game hasn't aged very well. But hey, I still expect that I would have a good time with it.
I never played this game, but why in earth does it use comic sans as subtitle font

This game is from 2001. You have to understand, it was a different era. :v:
A lot of people have pointed out City Escape's resemblance to San Francisco, but I had no idea it was because the Sonic Team was actually based there. That's pretty interesting.

i've been doing alright, replaying the game to 100% twice on the PC like 10 years after first playing them
but maybe that's because i fucking love this game, i don't know
I think honestly sonic adventure is a better game gameplay and music wise, but SA2 has made such a lasting impression even until today because it got everything else right.
The game may have aged like milk, but I'll admit the Chao Garden is still far more fun than it has any right to be. I spent more than a few hours on that before my Dreamcast went kaput.
The Chao Garden was the only reason I'd replay the Tails/Eggman stages, so I could farm Chaos Drive of a specific color.
It was still fun.
Oh and why the hell did Sonic Team took before deciding to lock the 2nd and 3rd radar in the Knuckles/Rouge stages? In SA1, you had access to all of them right of the bat. Made the stages in SA2 so frustrating.

One thing they forgot to mention is that Mission street is a large street down that goes through downtown and and residential neighborhoods in irl SF
I've always held the opinion that SA1 was way better. SA2 just felt like a spinoff to me. The story was forced and garbage (not that the story in SA1 is amazing or anything, but it at least had some cohesion to it), I didn't like how they set up the missions, etc.
I get why they did that though. A lot of people didn't like the hub world zones of SA1, and the slow characters like big/amy. I thought they were fine (fuck big the cat though). The level design, music, narrative structure, and everything else I thought was generally better.

SA2 plays a lot better than SA1, which I think is more important. Especially SA2 Sonic/Shadow compared to SA1.

It's weird really. They refined the controls for Sonic and Shadow (although one action button for almost everything meant the difference between a Lightspeed Dash along a line of rings, a Spindash, and a Bounce, which was annoying), and even Knuckles and Rouge by association are less clunky than the equivalent in SA1. But the level design exchanged actual multi-faceted and secrets-galore paths and layouts (and a couple gimmick levels) for linearity and setpieces, and pretty much everything else, from the aforementioned radars, to the treasure hunting stage design, to the mecha stages being more awkward and full of cheap hits than Gamma's equivalent in SA1, is either not that great or downright inferior to its predecessor.
And then they'd just continue to miss the mark in Sonic Heroes by throwing out everything good about Adventure 2, but that's neither here nor now.
Sonic Heroes is good though.
Sonic Heroes is good though.
the only problem it had was gaping death pits and everyone's favorite phrase (Which I don't understand the hate for) "Well show that creep the real super power of TEAMWORK!"
I personally prefer SA1 over SA2, even if SA1 suffers from more glitches and bad camera controls. It's just more fun to play.
SA1 suffers from being a game I could play blindfolded. I replayed it again on Steam and it was painfully easy. SA2's still got a bit of a challenge to it.
Sonic Heroes is good though.
Sonic here's was good if you didn't get all 7 chaos emeralds and A rank everything hoping to get some sort of super awesome cool reward.
Sonic Heroes is the reason I always spoil what I get for 100% completing a game, cause I'm not plunking down over 200 hours of my life again for a fucking super hard mode.

I swear youre part of a secret society bent on defending héroes, because almost no one liked that mess.
Personally, even if sa2 didnt age that well like most dreamcast games, the speed and replayability of some stages (let alone the Music) are easily one of my favorites of all sonic games. After all these years its still a blast to play white jungle, metal Harbor and the fucking Chao garden.
Also shadow wasnt a joke back then

Really? It feels way too "San Francisco inspired" to be a coincidence.

Secret Society, reporting in. Heroes was really good, I'll say it.
When Sonic Heroes is working, and you're playing like Team Rose or Team Sonic, it can be fun. One wrong lightspeed dash, or the slippery momentum betraying you because the physics are kind of fucked (which carries to Shadow the Hedgehog), or some other weird occurrence can promptly send you on a one-way ticket to the endless pits beneath almost every single stage in the game, though. And Team Dark and Team Chaotix are just.. anti-fun most of the time.
I thought the 'puzzle' elements of Team Chaotix were fun too. :x

I'll have you know that Sonic Heroes was the first game I bought for Gamecube back in the day :v:
It's only problems are pits of death and Chaotix's 'find the <insert object here>' missions, and some character dialogue. Really the only reason people play the game is to fight Metal Overlord which was one of the game's more redeeming points for badass final boss
