http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20822582
The UK ambassador to Argentina has been summoned to explain to officials in Buenos Aires why part of Antarctica has been renamed in honour of the Queen. John Freeman was handed a formal protest note "strongly rejecting" the UK's claim to a piece of land known as the British Antarctic Territory. The southern section was named Queen Elizabeth Land by Foreign Secretary William Hague on Tuesday. The note claimed the area was part of the Argentine Antarctic sector.
Time for them to live up to their family names, then
John Freeman? Seriously?
Don't they remember what happened that other time they tried to fuck with the UK?

I assume most people here get the reference, but just in case some of you don't:
Argentina, the only thing that has changed since you last tried to start a war with us, is we've got better guns, and more troops
Argentina, the only thing that has changed since you last tried to start a war with us, is we've got better guns, and more troops
We actually have less.
Why can't people realize that nobody gives a shit about royals anymore but tourists. They're a waste of tax money and aren't anymore intelligent than us and probably have no clue about politics either.
I really admire the brits, they're rubbing their big old hairy dicks on our faces knowing there's nothing we can do about it. Strange the chileans haven't said anything abou this yet, as I understand, they also have a territorial dispute on the Antartic peninsula.
We actually have less.
We have nothing. This country is still butthurt about the dictatorships we had more than 30 years ago. Spending cuts, trials, and all that vendetta shit that happens when a dictatorship is over left our military bodies as an empty shell. They are just a rotten skeleton of what they were. Not like they were much anyway.
The Queen meets very often with the Primeminister to talk actually [editline]22nd December 2012[/editline] Oh wait its you
Does not have power, lavish estate and infinite funds.
Why can't people realize that nobody gives a shit about royals anymore but tourists. They're a waste of tax money and aren't anymore intelligent than us and probably have no clue about politics either.
they make the uk a lot of money actually. if i was part of the uk i would oppose the monarchy purely out of principle; the idea that there is a monarch who is endowed by the grace of god to rule the country bothers me. however, i have no illusion about the monarchy being a financially bad idea.
Why can't people realize that nobody gives a shit about royals anymore but tourists. They're a waste of tax money and aren't anymore intelligent than us and probably have no clue about politics either.
Given that I personally quite like the Royal Family and that I'm not a tourist, I pretty much invalidated your argument that "nobody gives a shit".
and in a way it might make sense morally to have a queen still. it's basically turning centuries of a history of authoritarian and brutal rule into nothing but a sort of triviality. a bit of fun for the tourists and a bit of dosh for the parliament. it's a joke of a title that only serves as an acknowledgement that at one point there was a supreme ruler of england and that position has been eroded by parliament and by the people's will.

"ENGLISHMEN, LEAVE THIS PLACE!"
I oppose monarchs because they're typically treated as better human beings, its amazing how people can be so delusional in the year 2012.
well yea but any celebrity with enough fame is treated like that. people with money are essentially royalty whether we legally call them a noble or not. [editline]22nd December 2012[/editline] it's just the royal family is treated a few degrees better because of the associated prestige and tradition of that particular position.
Given that I personally quite like the Royal Family and that I'm not a tourist, I pretty much invalidated your argument that "nobody gives a shit".
Why? Why do you like some rich group of people who do nothing but get treated better than others. I realize there are tourism benefits but seriously.
hell we use the words "heir", "estate" and "dynasty" to refer to the inheritance of the rich still. those are terms that were used specifically for the aristocracy. so yea.
Why? Why do you like some rich group of people who do nothing but get treated better than others. I realize there are tourism benefits but seriously.
Because Prince Phillip. That man can get away with some seriously funny shit.
If I was in charge, I'd have them stripped of their better human status and thrown into the real world to see how they cope. Maybe that is too harsh.
Why? Why do you like some rich group of people who do nothing but get treated better than others. I realize there are tourism benefits but seriously.
Can you give me a reason not to like them? Wealth is not a measure of how likeable someone is - otherwise you would be classed as a cunt simply because you have more money than a homeless person.
If you were in charge I think the suicide rate would increase tenfold.
If I was in charge, I'd have them stripped of their better human status and thrown into the real world to see how they cope. Maybe that is too harsh.
I'm sure they'd do fine, what with their considerable wealth.
Can you give me a reason not to like them? Wealth is not a measure of how likeable someone is - otherwise you would be classed as a cunt simply because you have more money than a homeless person.
Because they're treated like gods. They only sit there on piles of money in a lavish estate doing nothing but touring the world, spitting out expensive food and wasting tax money. Maybe I don't see the value in 'traditional worship'.
If I was in charge, I'd have them stripped of their better human status and thrown into the real world to see how they cope. Maybe that is too harsh.
if you are currently alright with the idea of stripping the wealth from someone and putting them into the real world(not saying it's good or bad), then the royal family is a pretty benign target. throw some bankers and ceo's out first. the royal family doesn't really oppress people that much anymore.
Because they're treated like gods.
