Microsoft's Cortana voice assistant is now 13-0 when it comes to predictions for the football World Cup. In its latest forecast, Cortana predicted that Germany would beat Brazil in the semi-final, Business Insider reported. Microsoft's assistant, available for Windows Phone 8.1, now beats Paul the Octopus for World Cup predictions, in case you still care about that cephalopod. Cortana is a hybrid of Google Now's contextual queries and Siri's voice prowess, allowing users to do everything from posing queries to creating person-specific reminders. We found Cortana to be pretty slick in our Windows Phone 8.1 review, singling out the reminders and calendar integration in particular. "Need to pick up some milk at PickNPay? Don't worry, your phone will remind you. Want to ask a friend about that cool cake recipe? Then tell Cortana to remind you the next time the two of you communicate," we said at the time. According to Mobile Today, Cortana predicts Argentina to advance against Netherlands.
Excuse the late, if any, I didn't see it. I really want to grab a windows phone in the future.
Microsoft's assistant, available for Windows Phone 8.1, now beats Paul the Octopus for World Cup predictions, in case you still care about that cephalopod.
This line just completely invalidates the entire thing for me. Great job, this sophisticated piece of artificial intelligence able to weigh statistics has a slightly better track record than a random octopus that doesn't know what it's doing [editline]9th July 2014[/editline]
I really want to grab a windows phone in the future.
You can get a Nokia Lumia 521, brand new off contract for as little as $65. If you don't know much about Windows phone or just want to try it, it's perfect. It works perfectly, too. It's the phone I have and I still can't believe it's as good as it is for what it cost. But be aware, it's Microsoft and Windows. They don't let developers have as much control with the device as an android would. If you're looking for an app that changes the functions of the home button or the search button below the screen you won't find one. But 8.0 is WAY better than 7, and the 8.1 update is miles ahead of 8.0, in the phone world, and making your own apps is very user friendly, believe it or not, for Windows Phones
This is such good publicity for Windows Phone. Hope Microsoft grabs a hold of this and actually does something with the platform without telling people to "just wait."

Did you forget they're somewhat allergic to money when it comes to doing the smart thing, or what the masses want?

I love this thing - I get chewed out a lot in the office for having a dumbphone, but to be honest, I don't give a shit - it has the apps I want, looks great and has a design aesthetic that seems to work best for touch interfaces. That combined with Nokia's legendary build quality means I can be fairly certain this thing will be my main phone for a while. Oh, and it ported all my settings - my phone numbers, my notes, etc - from an almost eight year old phone seamlessly. I haven't tried out Cortana but can't wait to - the only downside I can think of is that the Xbox Music app by default is awful, though on the other hand, I haven't felt the need to use it because a) Nokia gave me 25 bucks to spend on free apps which means better third party music players, and b) Nokia MixRadio has actually resulted in me not even really loading any music on my phone anymore - I just stream the stations I want and download a track for later use or download the enitre mix offline to listen when I need to. I think people really need to try this - it might do things differently and it might not be for the ones who like to root phones and really muck about with its innards, but for what it does, it's great!

It just is, and it's probably the main gripe at the moment. As for Cortana, right off the bat it recognizes my voice and what I say without any problems, and it makes sending a text message while in a car, or calling someone easy. They plan on adding voice activation to it later so you won't even have to hit the button to start. But just saying Text So and So... Blah blah blah bloop blop bleep. It reads it back to you, you say Submit, off it goes. It's come along way since that video of that guy showing off voice activation and Office and saying "Delete That" over and over. You can also say Give me directions to such and such, and it'll immediately start the driving map with it as your destination ready to go, along with traffic density and if there's any delays on account of it. And my favorite, is telling her to remind me to get stuff when I'm at the store. if I don't specify the name of the store it'll give me a list of the closest ones. Then the next time I pull into the parkinglot it just chimes in and tells me the reminder automatically

I've been hearing stories about how good Cortana is and how people have managed to get her to do rather complex things over at the r/windowsphones subreddit as well. To be honest, Cortana is actually the only reason I decided to keep the phone I won instead of settling for a cash equivalent from winning the contest. The gamer in me kind of....rebelled. :v: I just hope they catch up quickly to other platforms without sacrificing the design language they have right now.
Some guys were doing awesome stuff with reminders and having their workplace and home setup, where it would calculate when to leave based on traffic and shit and tell you all by itself, and skip the days you weren't even working. It's pretty cool. I'm just happy Nokia makes the phone. Damn things can be bolted onto a vehicle and it would become mine resistant
Is this the power of the Microsoft Cloud?
I really want to grab a windows phone in the future.
My father got a 920 recently. piss poor battery life after multiple hard restores. A lot of features missing. We couldn't wait for the cortana update to come out so we returned it. Just a warning in case you're used to an android.

Lots of fireworks over here. Thanks Cortana!
