Recently Google had announced that it would not only encrypt the data that it handles when a user connects to its servers but also the data that flows between its data centres on private network.

At this point, it seems even when you aren't logged in, using private browsing (or incognito mode) and forcibly type HTTP://www.google.com, you are being redirected to the HTTPS version, thereby encrypting your search and no doubt leading to a total removal of keyword data – at least from Google search visitors. Remember, keyword data from other search engines – like Bing, for example – still send keyword data through.
Google - 1
NSA - 0
Neat, though I thought NSA forced companies to hand over encryption data.
Unless you click on paid ads in which case keyword data is still sent, I doubt security is the sole reason for the removal of keyword data.

Now the NSA will have to perform the paparwork required first.
Before it was available at five-finger-discount according to the NSA.

You mean you DON'T have those adblocked?
Wow, even corporations know that the us government is doing something incredibly wrong.

Edit: Disregard this post, I'm an idiot and bad at phrasing things, and I admit it. Apologies.
Corporations that exist entirely to make money by selling products and services calling out the U.S. government for being shitheads is like a murderer in prison looking down on a fellow inmate who's a pedo/rapist. Both parties are scum, but typically the former at least has standards, and rightfully looks down on the latter party for being even worse than they are.
It's naive to think that this will change anything in terms of NSA snooping.

To be fair, being seen as the corporation that helps the US govt with spying on you isn't exactly good for business either, and being one of the first large corporations to stand up to the US govt could be very good for business.
I've always used https://encrypted.google.com/

How is a corporation looking for money bad considering literally every corporation's goal is profit.

Wait so a corporation that wants to make money is scum? Uhhh
Next we'll be seeing an article that the NSA is suing Google for being a monopoly, and the lawsuit will be miraculously dropped when Google agrees to give the NSA information.
As if the NSA doesn't have the master keys for their encryption system already...

All corporations are evil, even ones that provide great services that we all use everyday.

Speculation is they have backdoors in Intel and AMD hardware itself, no need to have software keys.

Murderers have a right to look down on child molesters and rapists? I'm more afraid of your standards.
I think is more of a publicity/activist move instead of actually preventing the NSA from acquiring data. Google is trying its hardest to let the public know it is not in favor of handing its data over.

wait are you serious i cant tell

isn't that what they actually do in prison?

"Hey, I have a bunch of X, wanna buy them?"
"Sure!"
This is economic violence and it is NOT okay. Anyone who tries to sell things needs to leave my personal freedom space.
Murderer.
-understandable disagreement-
Sorry, all I was trying to say is that even if Google and other corporations are assholes, they can still rightfully look down on the U.S. government for being even bigger assholes.
I worded it horribly wrong due to being a big fucking idiot, and I apologize.
[editline]shit[/editline]
I also forgot to specify that the corporations in question were crappy for doing assholish things (snooping/letting NSA run amuk/etc.), and not for just existing in the first place. Once again, sorry.
finally :)
Lovely except for those filtering systems that block HTTPS.
Surely the referrer data is still passed? Completely defeating this.
Unless of course referrer data doesn't get sent over https, I am not sure on this.

If people start using "perfect" forward secrecy then it doesn't matter if the NSA, some random criminal or some guy sitting in a basement has the keys. It wouldn't surpise me if Google do use PFS as they most certainly have the processing power.
I use the https://www.eff.org/https-everywhere extension.

Referrer and such isn't passed between HTTPS > HTTP, but even then Google have been wiping the referrer for a while (By redirecting to a random page and then onto the destination, so the most the site knows is that you used Google, but not what you searched for, etc.)
And Google does use a ephemeral key exchange method, but they still use RC4 as the actual encryption method (Even to a TLS 1.2 client that can do GCM/CBC mode AES)
bahaha what a great 'fuck you' to NSA.
I always just set the search in my address bar at https://google etc.etc.
Worked fine for me, but I guess it's better now that Google's forcing it too
If only facepunch was the same so I could talk about Stephen Harper ea-...

Being okay with companies using your private information to exploit your personality for money but getting angry at governments using your private information to do whatever they do is a pretty stupid double standard tbh, especially considering some of the things these corporations will do in the name of a quick buck.
but will they still use your search data for ads? i still laugh when i see my amazon and game stop suggestions

No it's not. When you create an account with google you expect them to use your information for some things, and you give them permission to do so. If you don't want them to do so you can simply not create the account. You can't opt-out of the NSA as they're basically spying on the entire world. It's ridiculous to compare the two.
