http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-26839631
US President Barack Obama says his embattled signature healthcare programme is "here to stay" after more than 7 million Americans signed up. He told reporters the law, nicknamed Obamacare, represented progress and benefitted the economy. Mr Obama also lashed out at repeated conservative efforts to repeal or defund the law, calling it "troubling". There would be additional challenges to implementing the law, he said, but it was "working". An estimated 7.1 million Americans signed up for coverage to avoid penalties prior to Monday's deadline for doing so, exceeding initial projections.
Now for the next question, How many have paid their first premium payment? Signups mean nothing without payment data.
Most of the problems with "Obamacare" are just due to the fact that he thought corporations would cooperate. They didn't. Surpriiiiiise...
Watch as they are all shocked that they will be paying almost triple then they already were.
Website never worked for me, so I don't know if I'm even enrolled. Probably not, oh well.

But big pharma would die by spending all their money on lobbyists before they'll go naturally as an outdated industry should.
I get the idea that this number may have been artificially inflated, like considering people already on things like medicaid that switch over to obamacare as new signups when they really just switch from one gov't program to another.

Just look at how far away they were on this chart.
Most of the problems with "Obamacare" are just due to the fact that he thought corporations would cooperate. They didn't. Surpriiiiiise...
Plus state cooperation. Many red states declined Medicaid Expansion meaning those who are poor but not poor enough to get free or reduced healthcare costs will be in a tight financial situation.

7/35 million, woo! What some people don't seem to understand that while this is a better system, with (slightly) less scamming, overpricing, and corruption, it's far from universal. The majority of people I know can't even get it because they aren't eligible (aka excluded from coverage and fines) because they don't make enough money. Probably varies by state, though.
7 million out of ~35 million that are uninsured.
More accurate, yes. I wonder if those numbers include medicaid/medicare. Most working age adults I know lack health coverage, but it's probably just my area.
More accurate, yes. I wonder if those numbers include medicaid/medicare. Certain areas have higher counts of uninsured people so it seems wrong in those areas. At the same time congress could probably compel insurance companies to turn over overall insured people that they cover.

Was I included in that number being a person who already got healthcare through the government via the VA?
A cancer surviving mother with two daughters just finally got free healthcare after her husband left her with no money or anything. She depended on her son and her mother to pay for her required medical bags totaling easily over $700-800 a month because while the government granted her EBT and finacial assistance, They did not issue her health care. Obamacare allowed her to get free healthcare for her and her daughters, and get back money to pay back her son and her mother on the stuff they paid for before the plan. That person is my mother and my two sisters. To anyone saying obamacare isn't working, They filled the application out wrong, or they are pissed they can't work the system anymore.
To anyone saying obamacare isn't working, They filled the application out wrong, or they are pissed they can't work the system anymore.
Based on the Republican advertisements and the left wings coverage of them... it seems like alot of people are just payed off.
Folks are going to end up paying $1200 a month for it. Can't tell if that is absurd or not
Surprised it ever made it this far, back in 09/10' I was pretty sure the idea was gonna die that year because of all the opposition.
I'm just trying to work my head around it a bit; how much would say a 19 year old student who is also employed and lives by himself have to pay weekly? I guess that every time I see health insurance prices I get frightened. All I need to pay to receive significant government subsidies on most health care costs I have is 1.5% of my weekly earnings above $393 or thereabouts.
You really can't judge how this is going to go for a few more years. These programs never show their effects immediately.
We pay monthly here, and to answer you question, that depends on the level of coverage you pick. I can't really say what those numbers could be since I went directly to the insurance company.
I get the idea that this number may have been artificially inflated, like considering people already on things like medicaid that switch over to obamacare as new signups when they really just switch from one gov't program to another.
Switching from Medicaid "over to Obamacare" is not switching from "one gov't program to another." Obamacare is a system through which people register for private sector healthcare. Therefore, you are not on a government program if you have insurance through Obamacare.
Pray tell, where exactly do you think socialised health care systems get their medicines from if not Big Pharma?
They get them from there, but not at the price we pay for them in America.

It doesn't work for the majority, for every instance this happens thousands more lost their insurance. But oh hey ITS WORKING
7 million out of ~35 million that are uninsured.
The problem being that the majority of those 7 million were already insured before the passage of Obamacare.

If you're just a single, poor, white male with anxiety problems like me, you're fucked.
