Holy shit this looks grea-
*Pre-order now to get the Chaos warriors playable race*
Well, I'm no longer buying this or anything Creative Assembly makes anymore.
Seriously, they locked the main antagonist faction behind a fucking pay wall! That would be like having to pre-order the game to encounter Vas in Far Cry 3. They have the entire enemy faction complete and ready to play yet they are going to make you pre-order their (notoriously broken at launch) game or buy them afterwards for $10.
I didn't think the games industry could shock me any more than it has, but this is a new low.
They really are getting into the spirit of Games Workshop it seems. At least they've gotten that part of Warhammer right.
I wonder if there will be paint DLC?
That wasn't even a good trailer. I didn't understand a word of that shit.
CA have been doing this since Shogun 2, 2011.
I wouldn't exactly call CA "EA" tier either since they are sometimes pretty generous and give away entire factions for free, and they intend to carry it on with this game. Also the main bad guys in the original TWs (Huns in BI, Mongols in Med 1 & 2) were locked and never were playable.
CA can be pretty shitty at times like locking important factions behind paywalls but acting like they are any worse than your standard PC dev is rather false, they actually produce some of the best value DLCs on the market and listen to their community, they also put massive effort into making sure the modding community is in touch with the team, although the engine is complete dogshit and makes it rather difficult to make truly big mods like the old days in TW.
Also, SEGA are the ones who are probably responsible for this shit anyway as they also refuse to let CA release blood DLCs for free to prevent the age rating to go above T rated.
Nevermind what they've locked, they've announced DLC 6 months in advance of the release - and you're paying for singleplayer content that is in the game but restricted behind a paywall. To begin with, they're only releasing the game with a really measly four factions. Their going rate for a culture pack is £5.99 - this is on top of an already disgusting £50 asking price for people who don't preorder. And why should anyone? It was only 1.5 games ago that there was one of the most disastrous launches anyone has ever seen. Consumer confidence in CA is already at an all time low.
This is beyond greed, this is scummy.
LOL
Most important fucking race in the lore and they lock it behind preorders!

I was never bothered by their DLC before now. I actually thought it was quite fair for Rome II.
But this is crazy. I would rather they just make Chaos unplayable than lock them behind a pay wall.
It should be noted, in Warhammer TW they want depth rather than width with factions, in pretty every other TW game you could have 10 factions with about 3 - 4 cultures which all share the same units in their respective cultural group apart from some special units unique to each faction. Hell, in games like Empire, Napoleon and Shogun 2 everyone pretty much fought with the exact same units with not much diversity.
In Warhammer they want each culture to have tons more diversity and features. Each faction will have their own heroes, play styles, technology, quests, equipment and such. Playing as the Orks will be radically different to playing as the Empire, while playing as the Spartans in Rome 2 isn't too much different to playing as Egypt for example.
Also they plan to release old fashion expansion packs with 3 factions each and tons of content, something that's pretty much unheard of these days.
Honestly as someone who's been playing TW games for years and years I'm more pissed at the price, £50 is simply disgusting and it's sad it's becoming the norm to go above £35 in pricing these days. This Chaos pre order shit was not only expected, but REQUESTED by the community on the official forums, this stuff really shouldn't surprise anyone.
If i ever buy this it'll be the goty edition that will hopefully have at least half of the DLC. I'm done buying their shit at release.

Requested... Wait, what?
You're kidding, right?

If you look on the offical forums, there is no outrage and people are generally happy about chaos being the pre order faction ( as they were with the Greeks being the bonus in R2).
People were sad at the lack of chaos and were hoping for this. They have been supportive of CA doing this for some time.

why not fucking ask for them to include THE MAIN ANTAGONIST RACE as a playable race period ffs. it would be like if orks or chaos marines were behind a paywall in WH40K.
[editline]22nd October 2015[/editline]
could you fucking imagine the outrage this would have been if dark crusade, that featured the necrons, didn't have them playable at all?
CA does scummy shit like this and Games Workshop is notorious for fucking everyone in the ass and then charging them for it afterwards.
This sucks.
I can see how this couldn't be a problem in Rome 2 and Shogun 2, where you can buy a faction dlc or something like that. You get a somewhat different faction with a few special units and nothing else much. You didn't feel pressured to buy other factions than the ones that already exist.
BUT WHEN YOU PUT A PAYWALL FOR THE MAIN ANTAGONIST FACTION OF THE FUCKING GAME's UNIVERSE, :bullshit:

Soooo do we send the antrax to SEGA for such a horrible marketing plan, or the forum members for actually wanting this?
Weren't they gonna include Chaos in one of the expansions anyway?
Can't they just be modded in anyway?
this is pretty much why i stopped buying total war games
ever since i preordered rome 2 and got given a shitty game i haven't bought the new titles
wait wait wait wait wait
guys
guys
read the wording carefully, I think you might be overreacting a LITTLE
looks to me like an appearance pack for Chaos, not the race
"Pre-Order to get Chaos Warriors Race Pack"
I could be wrong but that's how it reads to me

Judging from past CA dlc stuff they're almost certainly talking about the race being playable.

As much as I'd like to share that view, the official website reads more like it's a whole Race.
"Lead the corrupted Chaos hordes as one of three new playable Legendary Lords and spread carnage with a full roster of bloodthirsty units, terrifying mounts and monstrous creatures. Embrace the Ruinous Powers as you embark on brand new quest chains, unlocking powerful items and gaining glory in the name of the dark Chaos Gods.
Three new playable Legendary Lords.
Unique new mounts, bloodthirsty units and monstrous creatures.
New quests, magic items and abilities"

On the bottom.
Worst part is that they still missed out on the chance to call it "Total Warhammer
This is ridiculous because I already own all of the Total War games with all of the DLC, I love them, and I'm still going to buy this but I'm really not happy with the price...
We've seen the Orcs, Empire and Dwarves in focus but have heard scant details about the Vampire Counts, supposedly the games fourth core race. Yet 6 months ahead of release DLC for Chaos Warriors is well enough along to not only announce it but show it off.
Gonna go a bit conspiracy theorist here and say that I think Chaos WAS a base faction, but SEGA/GW thought that as a business decision it net more pre-orders as a DLC tease than something like the Vampire Counts.

According to the devs, Chaos isn't one faction, for example daemons are a serperate faction.
This kills the preorder.
LOL

Thats like hiding a Promethean from Mass Effect behind a pay wall

Who honestly heard Vampire Counts as the fourth race and didnt instantly think; "no chaos?"
That theory probably holds some ground.
Give me a good reason why would you or anyone else NOT pirate this besides "hurr morals"
So I'll admit - still kinda confused. Is it set in WHFB or Nuhammer?
Give me a good reason why would you or anyone else NOT pirate this besides "hurr morals"
Because despite a few bad decisions (which have been ongoing in TW for years), the devs have put tons of hard work into this game and I feel like supporting them?
