Abduction charges against Brisbane mother Sally Faulkner and a Channel Nine TV crew have been dropped in a Lebanon court, lawyers say. The four-person 60 Minutes team, including journalist Tara Brown, has been in jail since being accused of involvement in an operation to snatch Ms Faulkner's children off a street in Beirut nearly two weeks ago. Ms Faulkner's estranged husband, Ali el-Amine, is said to have struck a deal that saw the charges abandoned, but is still pursuing the child recovery crew who snatched his young son and daughter from their grandmother. Both the TV crew and Ms Faulkner could be released later this evening. Signs of a potential breakthrough emerged this evening, when Ms Faulkner's lawyer, Ghassan Moghabghab, said an agreement had been negotiated between Ms Faulkner and her estranged husband. Ms Faulkner would be required to give up custody of the two children in return for her release, according to reports.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-04-20/60-minutes-charges-dropped-in-child-abduction-case/7343636 Not like that changes anything given she didn't have (physical) custody and Lebanese law doesn't allow for her to have custody.
When did state drop the charges against the reporter? They said in the news about an hour ago that it was only findings not the final hearing.

I wonder how much Channel Nine bribed the father with.
I swear news crews these days are damn near untouchable and its absurd, if they get involved in a straight up kidnapping then fucking charge them, they aren't special. Its like the time a channel 9/7 (I honestly don't remember) went to do an article on some cannibal tribe and abducted a child from them but got off pretty much scott free. They break the law on an almost daily basis with the harassment they pull on their victims and its disgusting how little anyone does about it or can do about anything they pull.

The father essentially abducted the child and fled the country to avoid the law. I have zero respect for the laws of the world's various shitholes.

It doesnt matter whether he took them against Australian law or not, the country they went to protected him and the kids hence the charges against them. Their actions were idiotic, not only did they potentially cause diplomatic strain for Australia but they also put the kids and themselves in danger in a situation that they should never have entered into. There are legal channels for a reason and as a news crew you are not above those, even if this was a situation where everything that the father did was illegal they are still a fucking news crew not child protective services, they have no right to take the law into their own hand and they should be locked up for such a blatant disregard for anything but ratings.

Under Lebanese law the father has custody. That's why he ran off with the kid to Lebanon. Going through legal channels would be a huge mess and probably not get anyone anywhere. Besides I believe the only way they could have done it was if the father and mother both agreed to go through with it. Which is retarded because why would the father go through with it when he'll most likely lose custody. However, while it seems unfair, you shouldn't fight kidnapping with kidnapping.
this entire case is a mess and channel 9 were fucking dumb to tag along just for ratings

Our court system is beyond bias when it comes to family and children's court. It's the number one reason for male deaths in the country and is only second by child support.

Me? I've had about 20 years of it.

Your single experience does not represent the whole system.
I wonder how much Channel Nine bribed the father with.
Update: channel nine actually paid the father a 'six-figure sum' LMAO They fucked this up so bad. The mother has agreed to forfeit any custody of the children, forever, so that she could be released from jail. Channel Nine has lost a heap of money, and the actual abductors are still in jail and the father is going to get the court to throw the book hard at them. The Australian Federal Police have said they won't be looking into it all yet, but they certainly aren't ruling it out
Text
It's not sure if she had custody in the first place, all the news papers and online things only speculated that she did.
