Thank god i never learned this "common core"
Well I mean to be fair, some of the questions looked tough to solve within the 5-second time limit.
i couldnt do that shit
Well I mean to be fair, some of the questions looked tough to solve within the 5-second time limit.
Man you do it while he's reading it out loud though
I could imagine somebody struggling when the multiplications appeared for the first time, but with the answer being said, the one with scattered minuses should have been something you answer before he finishes reading.
i did it where's my cheque
I could do all but the arithmetic problem with negatives in the time period
To be fair, he is being put in the spotlight. I found them pretty easy to figure out, but I think my brain would have failed me too if I had a audience looking at me, cameras pointed at me, and bright lights on me.
He continuously picked higher and more dangerous math questions though. The second time he didn't get it he probably should've realized it wouldnt get any easier.
i couldnt do that shit
It's really easy if you do it backwards instead of forwards, like 1 * 2 * 3 * 4 * 5 is easier if you just go like 4* 5 = 20, and then 2 * 3 = 6, and then 20 * 6 easy to do. Last one they should have just looked at how many negative signs there were, I was kinda baffled no one guessed it. Odd number of negative signs means a negative number, even means an even number. Though that kinda stuff was common knowledge.
I thought factorials were common knowledge, but on the other hand I'm being too judgemental of kids.
Yup, that's beyond me.
As the above comments point out, it's entirely reasonable for this kids not to get the answers. Don't really see whats so funny about it.
neither can i....
I don't see the big deal. American school's aren't great when it comes to teaching math. I spent so much time using a calculator for everything I had to relearn how to write out basic stuff in my first year at college.
I'm an idiot and made a tiny error. -snip-
The one that threw me off the most is the one the second one. I got 5. 1 - 2 = 1 1+ 3 = 4 4 - 4 = 0 0 + 5 = 5. Of course this is math which is literally riddled with bullshit logic circles to fulfill other bullshit logic circles.
What? 1 -2 = -1 -1 + 3 = 2 2 - 4 = -2 -2 + 5 = 3 ...
Oh for fuck's sake...I hate tiny mistakes.
Did it along with the video, only one I got wrong was 1x2x3x4x5, got 122 instead of 120. But at least I had *an* answer, better than none at all.

Silence is better than looking like a goof and having the wrong answer in many cases. The only place where you're better writting anything than nothing is school.

Math questions shouldn't be on Jeopardy
The one that threw me off the most is the one the second one. I got 5. 1 - 2 = 1 1+ 3 = 4 4 - 4 = 0 0 + 5 = 5.
easier: 1 + 3 + 5 = 9 -2 + (-4) = -6 9 + (-6) = 9 - 6 = 3
The other way is just as easy IMO. [editline]19th December 2014[/editline] Then again I am a math major so probably not :v:
In technicality, we are supposed to do the additions before the subtractions to follow the order of operations. But that can be disregarded as long as there's no multiplication or division.
The fact that we have multiple posts debating mathmatics justifies these kids so much.
In technicality, we are supposed to do the additions before the subtractions to follow the order of operations. But that can be disregarded as long as there's no multiplication or division.
The order of operations specifically states that you do the order of addition and subtraction at the same time, as if you count them the same. PE(MD)(AS) or PEMA. [editline]19th December 2014[/editline]
The fact that we have multiple posts debating mathmatics justifies these kids so much.
Math is easy, it's just that everyone's math teachers sucked, and in my personal belief, schools push a shitty curriculum. I find math extremely interesting and it's been wholly organized for as long as I can remember, but not once did I find doing math homework fun.
He continuously picked higher and more dangerous math questions though. The second time he didn't get it he probably should've realized it wouldnt get any easier.
The last one they showed was fairly easy. Odd negatives = negative. Even negatives = positive. I lost at 24 * 5 though. I thought it was 96. :downs:
Wrong. Silence is better than looking like a goof and having the wrong answer in many cases. The only place where you're better writting anything than nothing is school.
On Jeopardy, there is no difference between an incorrect response and no response (after buzzing in). Once you've buzzed in, literally anything is better than nothing. Not buzzing in at all would be better, but since a big chunk of the Jeopardy strategy is buzzing in first and figuring it out on the fly, you might not be able to do that.
I'm legitimately curious where you flipped a bit and got 122 from. That seems like an odd answer to me.
I think it was something like this: 1x2=2 2x3=6 6x4=24 (24+1)*5=125 which was way faster because that's just 5^2*5^1=5^3 and I know 5^3=125 Instead of doing 125-5=120, I must have done 125-3=122 because I had about a second left
