Oh wow, Thats impressive.
If I knew how to play chess I would probably be impressed.
well someone obviously didn't watch the video
Derren Brown. That is all.
that was really cool
Too bad he fucked up with the first number.
wow that is freaking awesome !
Holy shit.

Argh now I want to know how he figured out the numbers
Lol'd at the ending.
That's awesome. I can't even remember what I had for breakfast this morning, yet alone the moves and responses for 8 tables of chess. This guy's memory is insane.
He mostly uses mnemonics. It isn't actually that hard with practice and you'd be surprised at what you can do with it. During some previous era mnemonics based memorization was big and most people could memorize a lot more, but a new school of thought came in and pushed mnemonics out of the way. It's not particularly bad that the new school of thought came into being especially in that it pushed rationalization and understanding of concepts, but the issue is that it regarded memorization as being a negative which is why memorization techniques are usually never taught in schools. I'm sure you can think of plenty of teachers right out say that they don't want you to memorize the material, yet rather that you should understand it. Though this is true, I think a balance could be struck in which you can understand the concepts and memorize the information.
Oh wow, that's pretty smart. Wanted to know more about the number though.
Jesus fuck, that's astonishing. That is worthy of a Greek myth. Step the fuck aside, Ulysses.
Wow that's awesome shame he failed on the first number.
I'm left wondering how he got those numbers and how he beat that last guy these questions are too great for me to not consider that it might be fake
That's amazing and not even one of his best stunts! One of my favourites was when he hypnotised somebody playing an arcade zombie shooter, moved him to a replica location of the game in real life, woke him up and then gave him a gun with blanks, to make him think he'd been transported inside the game. He beat the last guy genuinely, because he was the weakest player.
I knew he was going to play the masters against the other 1/2 way through.
pretty neat
Wow that's awesome shame he failed on the first number.
He and many other magicians mess up purposely. There is very good reason for this, mainly in that it gives more credibility that what was given was an actual prediction. It makes someone less likely to believe that there is some trick to it because you'd assume that if there was some trick to it that they would go for 100% accuracy. Purposely messing up throws people off because people are less likely to question if it is just a simple trick. I've actually done a decent amount of mentalist type magic and messing up occasionally actually works quite well. There is a card trick in which I pretend to guess the card based on questions and their reactions. People usually get into this because I usually describe what they are telling me and the audience usually can agree with what I'm pointing out. Messing up on purpose makes people think that I am actually predicting the card because why would I want to make myself look bad, and even better, there are always audience members who will point out what I did wrong in my reading, and the audience believing they can actually predict the card based off the person's reaction lends so much credibility to my ability to predict it. So this is to say I think he messed up purposely. In the case that he didn't mess up at all, a decent number of people would think there was just some trick to it (and there are many simple tricks to do what he did). But getting part of the prediction wrong eliminates the majority of these people who would have thought that there was some simple trick to it if he got the numbers all right, meaning that the trick appeals and surprises many more people.
I'm left wondering how he got those numbers and how he beat that last guy these questions are too great for me to not consider that it might be fake
Derren might actually be good at chess. He of course says he's not, but all magicians lie. It is also a lot more impressive to say "I'm terrible at chess" and to end up winning as opposed to saying "I'm pretty decent" and winning.
What.
Not sure how many times I've seen this video over the years.
This is really a clever way to do it.
briliant, just briliant
I wish my memory was as good as Derren Brown's...
I got how he did it a few minutes in, but he is brilliant.
I knew how he would win before I opened up the tab. And then he predicted the numbers and I nearly shat myself.

I do not believe he played any of the games legitimately.
I love this dude so much. Isn't he gay too. I love his show though, I used to watch it all the time.

I don't think how that game actually went really reflected the statement. Though I did do some thinking and I think there may have been some trick to beating that guy. Not sure what exactly, but losing to him would look very awkward in that why would he be able to beat these grand masters and not be able to beat this kid. This makes me think there is something involved. Even if Derren was a better player, would he chance making the trick look very awkward all upon his playing ability? I don't think so, though there is that chance.
