A bit long-winded, but interesting take on everything they've screwed up so far. Not to forget the hundreds of unmentioned problems this would cause for road design.
Solar Roadways should be the textbook example of bullshit Kickstarter projects and bullshit Engineering projects.
We had similar shit for years now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVkMObgOq8U

At least I hope it wasn't too expensive or maybe it has some other uses?
I haven't watched the video yet, but I still really don't get why anyone even wanted to put solar panels on roads in a country as huge and sparsely populated as the US.

Outside of that, you face crown cross-slopes and transition curves...basically anything with a slope(which is everything) would be horribly inefficient when compromising for transportation.

Oh wait.
Yeah that's why they don't put solar panels on house roofs. Oh wait.
I'm talking about the hexagonal pattern, buddy. Not to mention driver discomfort.
wow a solar panel that covers itself
I wish the speaker could drop the condescending "well it should be good, right guys" *reveals the truth* shit. Just get to the point.
Solar Roadways should be the textbook example of bullshit Kickstarter projects and bullshit Engineering projects.
Not by a fucking long shot. These people actually paid for and produced a prototype. Most Kickstarter projects don't even get half as far.
Not by a fucking long shot. These people actually paid for and produced a prototype. Most Kickstarter projects don't even get half as far.
They produced a prototype that isn't even working in practice and has been done before for far less money. It's a textbook definition of snake oil salesmen. Okay, sure. They have cells that produce electricity. But this entire project hinges on the cells also using LEDs for highway markings, and it's plainly obvious that they don't work. Yes. A solar roadway with no markings! Perfect! [editline]19th October 2016[/editline] The concept is cool and sounds good on paper but the cost alone for laying the foundation is something that will never be adopted. I think it would be interesting if they just refocused and put their attention elsewhere. Buildings with solar cells built into the actual structure, for example. They can be on the roof like normal and also be on the exterior of the building next to windows and whatnot just to squeeze in a bit more energy production, and something like that would actually be feasible. Maintaining them would be easy too, because they could be cleaned like regular windows from cleaning crews and have to be cleaned much less often than a highway made of solar cells.
Is that his real voice? my god
Not by a fucking long shot. These people actually paid for and produced a prototype. For some reason this guy is very annoying. Maybe it's the condescending attitude and saying "ash-phalt" and "lid"

[editline]19th October 2016[/editline] Look past the initially grating voice. There's a lot of good stuff there.
Theres so little space dedicated to the actual solar panels. imo they should have ditched the LEDs and made hexagonal panels if they could.
