So I'm really getting into making things out of clay and thought I'd throw it all into one thread instead of cluttering up the art section with new ones. I'll add all my old stuff I've made and update it when I make something new.
Woo, finally got my bullsquid done. This one was pretty frustrating, but I'm really happy with how he turned out.
I've done all my favorite Half-Life monsters now, and I think I'm gonna move onto something else...not sure what yet, though.

Made another one! I'm on a roll. :D A houndeye from Half-Life 1 this time.

Here's the latest one. My fiance was really impressed with my headcrab and vortigaunt, and asked if I'd make a turret from Portal for him. So I did. Had a lot of trouble with this one...it was easy to get together, but when I started baking him, his legs fell off and I couldn't get them to stay on again. Thought I was gonna have to give up on him, but I luckily managed to save him...after much frustration. >:/ But I like how he came out.

Posted this one a few days ago - a vortigaunt. Would have liked to put more detail into him, but his arms and legs were really flimsy and hard to work around. I don't think he turned out too bad, though.

My first real attempt at making a little figure from modelling clay - a headcrab. My camera kinda washed out the main color so he looks white, but he's a light beige.

My ACTUAL first attempt at making something from modelling clay. A Gears of War grenade keychain.

The last few things aren't made from modelling clay, but I thought I'd add them here anyway. They were made in a ceramics 2 class I took last year. My final project was a sentry gun from Team Fortress 2. Really proud of this one.

Another grenade from Gears of War...only life size! Really proud of this one, too.

And a kitty bank, lol.

And that's all I got. Will update when I have something new.
These are really well made. I like them.
pretty cool man
The vortiguant is superb.
That turret is so cute!
God damn, I want a kitty bank.
Make a headcrab bank.
That's awesome, if these were for sale I would probably buy them, along with half of facepunch.
Make a headcrab bank.
I really like this idea...surprised I didn't think of it when I was taking the class. I was thinking about going back to the ceramics studio just to make some new stuff, I might just make one of these eventually!
That's awesome, if these were for sale I would probably buy them, along with half of facepunch.
Thanks! If I start selling them (which I very well might soon), I'll let ya know if you're serious about it. :D
Also, a WIP of my newest project - a houndeye from Half-Life 1. Really proud of this one, I'm hoping the paint job will come out as good as the figure...

Updated! Finished my houndeye.
Daaaaamn, some nice sculpting right there.
The houndeye and headcrab are my favorite
Looks really sweet with colors and all! Maybe you could add a shiny finish or some shine effects on the 'eyes'. You could also work on the color so it looks less general and more varied and nuanced. That would definitely up the quality though the very sculpting in itself is awesome.
I understand why the turret was annoying. Holy shit talk about tiny legs.
The houndeye is definitely your best yet. How about I draw you some random sketches of monsters until you like one enough to sculpt him? :v:

I've been trying to vary the colors a bit, but it definitely takes some practice. I either end up doing it too much or not enough. They all have it to some extent, but it's subtle and my camera doesn't really pick it up that well. Just gotta keep practicing I guess! Thanks for the tips!

And thanks!
the houndeye is awesome
How on earth does the portal sentry guns legs stay on?!
Wire probably.
Wire probably.
Yup, this. They're just pieces of wire stuck into the main part of the body.
Damn, your kitty bank made me laugh so much.
I really don't know it's funny.
fantastic craftsmanship on the houndeye
Damn, your kitty bank made me laugh so much.
I really don't know it's funny.
I'm guessing because it goes from creepy aliens, sentry guns, and grenades to.....a kitty? :v:
Make a turret, with a kitty on it!
Update! Finished my bullsquid.
