Iranian authorities have arrested more than a dozen journalists in the past two days over their links to "anti-revolutionary" media, Iranian media reported, in what appeared to be a coordinated crackdown on the press.
With a presidential election five months away, Iran's clerical leadership appears to be tightening its grip on the media to avoid a repeat of the widespread protests that erupted after the disputed election in 2009.
Ahh the joys of the democratic process.
Wonder if we will see a repeat of the 2009 protests
Gonna be interesting as fuck
Ahmadinejad isn't going to be pres after the elections, the term limit in Iran is two.

You think someone would do that? Just become a dictator and follow the law like that?
EDIT: this was kind of supposed to be a joke, don't look too much into it.

Because he can't. He is bound by the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran

Wasn't the religious leader above him? Ahmadinejad is just the prime minister / figure head, not the actual supreme ruler.

Seems I'm right according to wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politics_of_Iran

Yo make it sound as if he's going to follow it.
Hint: He wouldn't give two shits about the "constitution"

Based on? The supreme leader isn't exactly fond of him and there were people in parliament calling for his impeachment in 2012. Do you even know anything about this?

Ahmadinejad as the person himself isn't some batshit Kim-Jong il leader as the media would like to portray.
The protests and controversy were over alleged vote rigging. Vote rigging is not the same thing as an illegal third term. Despite the possibility that Ahmadinejad did not win fairly in 2009, there is no way he could hang onto power after this election without changing the Constitution.

He's certainly not the best person around either.

And certainly not the worst.

Your insight into Iranian politics is astounding.
With the recent sanctions causing trouble for the Iranian economy it doesn't surprise me that they are trying to prevent the fomentation of dissent during an election early, although in doing so they are doing a pretty awful job of running a democracy. Here's hoping they actually engage the youth of Iran to a greater degree, maybe then some good reforms will take place
