"As a child I knew you were gay"
"So you'd know I didn't make a choice"
"And you've made a choice..."
Fucking idiot. He's better off without these cunts. How the fuck can you treat your own blood like that?
Edit: Just watched the full thing, Jesus. She (he?) punches the kid and everyone defends her. What the hell? Objectively she was in the wrong for physically hitting him.
Damn, as soon as i heard her voice, and then talking about the lord i knew it was gonna get bad.
As soon as you hear the southern accent you just know the direction it's going to go
jesus fucking christ, that was hard to watch
i hope the guy made it through that whole mess and found another place to stay
This shit makes me so fucking angry, holy shit. These people should be fucking reported to CPS. It makes me SO FUCKING ANGRY that people are this ignorant in 20 and FUCKING 14. People this idiotic should not be allowed to be parents, EVER. The fact that they're shoving their intolerant asses onto their children is the most horrible thing I can think of. And this shit happens every god damn day.
"I'm not going by Science, I'm going by the word of God". How about you follow your word of god and love your son you sack of shit?
What mother doesn't love her own son, how fucking sad.

To be fair, the kid is 20 years old. I'd take them to court and publicly humiliate them. Even their church would probably condemn their actions.
I never understood how people can be so ignorant. Being Christian is not an excuse. The majority of my family is heavily Christian, praising Jesus and going to church every Sunday, but when my brother came out not a single member of my family thought any less of him. When the subject is brought up by their friends or the like, they often say "God doesn't make mistakes. There is nothing wrong with him."
This video made me so fucking furious. I'm sorry, I wish I hadn't watched the video, it makes me so sad to see that people have to go through that.
They even assaulted him. They should face some legal consequences for their reckless actions.

I, and my family are mostly Southern. Please don't generalize.
Edit: Sorry for making two posts, thought this thread wouldn't go so fast.

I'm straight out of Nashville. I've seen it all before, even first hand. There's places in Alabama that are absolutely terrible about this exact thing and this family sounds like they founded the city of Mobile

That people in the South are more religious? What are you "seeing?"
That people in the South are more religious? What are you "seeing?"
Gay bashing. Not the religion part, but they often show up together, too

It's wrong to stereotype people but to say that this isn't the norm in the Bible belt is just wrong. Many wouldn't kick their kids out but this is how these conservative christians would condemn anyone but their own family members. I used to work near the DHS office and a lot of people who came out as atheists/homosexuals ended up here because they were disowned by their families.
Ignorance breeds ignorance and unfortunately, that geographical area has a long way to go, there's a reason why these states are coming in last when it comes to education and unlike Arizona, it can't be traced back to the lack of funding.
It's still wrong to generalize an entire group of people based off anecdotal evidence. There are many parts in the deep south where being gay/not Christian is accepted (note: I'm not being a hypocrite and saying that the South is progressive based off this, it isn't).

That's like saying most of the middle east isn't hot because there are a few snow capped mountains.
The majority of the south is most definitely not as progressive or tolerant as the rest of America, it never has been.

Not sure if that is legit, but if it is, and someone can show proof, I'll be donating.
Who cares if its a choice or not? Still being assholes.

I wasn't saying the South was progressive, I was saying that you can't just generalize a whole area based on a few stories.
Who cares if its a choice or not? Still being assholes.
I appreciate the sentiment but comments like these aren't doing anyone any good, when there is certain evidence that it is not, in fact, a choice. A more appropriate post would have likely been "It is not a choice, stop being assholes". People do, sadly, care, and it needs to be emphasized at every point possible that it isn't.

Agreed. I hate playing devil's advocate and pretending that there's a possibility that it is a choice because it places the idea in the opposing view's head that they're correct.
Damn, this hits hard to me. I've been through this tons of times, except mine was with me dealing with depression rather than coming out as being gay. I recently got slapped and yelled at for saying that I had thoughts of suicide. It's hard to deal with something when you can't trust or respect the people who raised you and took care of you and who can't accept something that they don't agree with or understand.
A tear actually formed in my eyes watching this video.
I know words can't help this kid, but I feel so bad for him. This is just horrible. Horrible and angering. This makes me so fucking angry.

That's awful man. With any luck you'll be able to leave anybody like that behind you and never deal with it again.

Doesn't seem like the type of person who'd make a claim against their own family.

The American Deep South is a backwards place full of racism, classism and religious bigotry. Its only redeeming factor being its ridiculously unhealthy but delicious cuisine.
I have heard countless stories of this happening, but this is the first time I've actually heard it happen. They don't even attempt to mask the utter hatred in their voices.
This man is a stranger to me, but I am absolutely livid. Nobody deserves to be treated this way just because they are gay, especially by their own parents. Their behavior is disgusting and absolutely unacceptable.
That's awful man. With any luck you'll be able to leave anybody like that behind you and never deal with it again.
Even though they're probably 50%-80% of the source of my anxiety/depression problems (through genetics, environment), they're family, and I can't find it in myself to leave them indefinitely (cut all contact, etc.) They've done so much for me, and it'd put so much burden and guilt on me if I did.
Science isn't about anything at all but observation. You push a ball down a hill and it rolls down it, therefore, some force (gravity) makes things go down. You can see a ship vanish into the horizon and when shadows, at exact times, in when in two different locations, are in different angles, therefore the earth is round. All science is is "I don't know the cause of X effect, so lets find out what that is", and that's it. Science, even evolution doesn't prove any religion is totally wrong, it doesn't prove god is fake, it doesn't do any of that because you can't prove a negative. All science is, is try and find out how things work, that's it.
and yet why is it that religious nuts dismiss science as some sort of faith system even though science is literally why everything exists today that exists? Science is literally just critical thinking, even if you have to word what science is in a stupidly simplified way, that's all it is, it's opening your eyes and actually thinking about what is happening.
If you push away the idea of science you're literally pushing away the idea of any amount of intellectual thinking. You're basically damning yourself to being a completely ignorant person whose only explanation of everything is incredibly dumbed down and primitive. Vikings explained lightning as "Caused by an angry god", and that worked back then, but today we know literally the exact reasons it happens. That's what happens when you ignore the observable fact that no, being gay isn't a fucking choice. Being ignorant however, is.
We have billions of books based on all kinds of observations people have made, go read one.
This is what happens when Christians think that we as humans have a choice to be good or evil, Christian teaching is that we are all corrupt. The closest we can come to controlling our sinful natures is through living a chased life, essentially trying to mediate our thoughts and behaviours (but ultimately failing). Revealing that it is within human nature to be evil is useless if you have not revealed resulting thoughts and acts to be evil and it is simply wrong to claim that we consciously chose our nature.
Also of course physical assault is in no way the right action to take in such a situation.
