The Convention of States Project, comprised of legislators and policy experts representing all 50 states, are hosting a simulated Article V convention in Williamsburg this week. Their goal is to demonstrate the means by which citizens and state legislators can regain what they believe is a lost Constitutional right of self-governance, and prevent or reverse federal misuses of power. “America’s Founders meant for us to use Article V—it is in the Constitution because they inherently knew that a consolidation of power at the federal level would eventually become corrupted,” Mark Meckler, President of Citizens for Self-Governance and co-founder of the Tea Party Patriots, said in a release announcing the event. “The protection of liberty and securing of our rights now falls to us, because the federal government has proven unwilling to apply the checks and balances the Constitution provides.”
I'm interested to see what kind of a constitution they end up with at the end of this. It's being livestreamed, here's the day 1 vod:
Bill of rights 1. Guns 2. No taxes Alright conventions over
Bill of rights 1. Guns 2. No taxes Alright conventions over
I mean that would be pretty sick tbh
I mean that would be pretty sick tbh
Taxes pay for things though.
Taxes pay for things though.
If the good lord intended that we have roads, we'd have tires in place of feet, headlights in place of eyes, and 6 liter Diesel engines implanted in our ribcages!
Taxes pay for things though.
But if you have guns you don't have to pay for anything
The amendments, according to a press release from the Convention of States Project, will be designed to “impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, and set term limits for its officials and for Members of Congress.”
This is interesting to me for a couple of reasons. The Civil War marked a huge increase in Federal power. The choice was clear, keep 'states' rights' and limit Federal power but also keep slavery, OR the Feds step in with greater power and end slavery. Most people chose, quite rightly, to end slavery. Then we had segregation and the Jim Crow era. Everything from bans on interracial marriage to 'redlining' housing, so as to prevent certain people from being able to move into certain areas. Once again, this wasn't going to end unless the Feds stepped in and forced it to end. "Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever" is what the states' rights people wanted. Now, in 2016, these people want to roll back Federal power. Gee, I wonder why.

You might as well be calling everyone who disagrees with you "literally Hitler"

tbh whenever i see the "states rights" thing it's often peddled out as an argument for why the federal government couldn't ban slavery in the 19th century, end segregation in the 20th, and allow gay people to marry and woman to have abortions in the 21st the bigger bullshit ofc is that the civil war wasn't even about states rights in the first place - but retards like to rewrite history and pretend it was
Trump has been so crazy recently I sort of forgot that the Tea Party existed for a while. Being able to overshadow the Tea Party is nothing less than impressive, honestly.
