• Trump Staffers Cheered and Booed During Wednesday's Press Conference.

Disclaimer: Altered headline. Politico article headline is "Trump pits his staff against the media" but I feel that it was too vague and it doesn't get to the meat of the article. If a mod (or others) want me to change it, I can.
NEW YORK — When Donald Trump gathered the press at Trump Tower 20 months ago to announce his unlikely candidacy for president, he reportedly paid actors to fill the marble lobby and cheer. Not much — and everything — has changed since. On Wednesday morning, when the president-elect once again faced hundreds of reporters from around the globe gathered in his lobby -- this time for his first press conference in seven months — Trump filled the room with paid staffers who clapped and cheered as he blasted members of the media as purveyors of “fake news.”

The Greek chorus of loyal, paid staffers in the back of the room boosting Trump with their hoots and cheers also served as a reminder, of sorts, of the movement of Trump backers happy to take him at his word and jeer the media as the out-of-touch liars.

“Fake news” became the running theme of the hour-long press conference, which peaked with Trump refusing to take a question from CNN reporter Jim Acosta and yelling at him, “I’m not going to give you a question. You’re fake news.” CNN broke the story on Tuesday about the intelligence briefings, which implied Russia could potentially be in a position to blackmail Trump. Twitter gasped, but his Greek chorus cheered. “Do you honestly believe that Hillary Clinton would be tougher on Putin than me?” Trump asked at another point. Some staffers in the room responded to the rhetorical question, yelling out, “No!” And they cheered again when Trump jeered sarcastically at a reporter who asked if he planned to release his tax returns. “Oh gee,” the president-elect said, employing a verbal eye roll, “I’ve never heard that before. The only ones who care about my tax returns are the reporters. I became president.”
http://www.politico.com/story/2017/01/trump-press-conference-paid-staffers-media-233496
I'm skeptical of the "greek chorus" line. The article offers no source for it's claims, only substantiating with "it's reported."
I'm skeptical of the "greek chorus" line. Who would even be in that room?
I'm skeptical of the "greek chorus" line. The article offers no source for it's claims, only substantiating with "it's reported."
They aren't literally a greek chorus, the article is reporting that it is reminiscent of a greek chorus the way that the performers would cheer and boo for the main characters. I think that is why you are confused?
From wikipedia's article on a Greek Chorus
Plays of the ancient Greek theatre always included a chorus that offered a variety of background and summary information to help the audience follow the performance. They commented on themes, and, as August Wilhelm Schlegel proposed in the early 19th century to subsequent controversy, demonstrated how the audience might react to the drama. According to Schlegel, the Chorus is "the ideal spectator", and conveys to the actual spectator "a lyrical and musical expression of his own emotions, and elevates him to the region of contemplation."

i mean who really would be applauding in a room full of journalists at the president elect shitting on a news organization and a reporter who in that room would applaud but Trumps staff? Who would even be in that room?
I think you're vastly underestimating the President-elect's base of support. I'm no journalism expert; aren't these events usually pretty packed full of people, press and all?
It's like Trump's trying to be Putin, but too stupid to pull it off.
I think you're vastly underestimating the folks who actually like what Trump has been putting out. I'm no journalism expert; aren't these events usually pretty packed full of people, press and all?
Am I? Are the polls that came out yesterday really showing his favour? They weren't. I looked. I'm no expert on this either, but it's not really an event for the public to crowd into and disrupt traditionally. I know Trump changes the rules, and this may very well be an example of that rule change. Press conferences are to be circuses, I just hope that's not the case.
And they cheered again when Trump jeered sarcastically at a reporter who asked if he planned to release his tax returns. “Oh gee,” the president-elect said, employing a verbal eye roll, “I’ve never heard that before. The only ones who care about my tax returns are the reporters. I became president.”
shit like this is why i've got no faith in America
Am I? Are the polls that came out yesterday really showing his favour? They weren't. I looked.
Thats cute, but it doesn't mean there aren't folks who will still genuinely cheer him on when he calls out the press. The guy wouldn't have been elected if he didn't have some supporters.
shit like this is why i've got no faith in America
Feels like Trump is America brought to its logical conclusion
A narcissist pays people to cheer for him? shocking
shit like this is why i've got no faith in America
The silver lining is that stuff like the tax returns and his mostly volatile picks (I swear Mattis is the best one to get in and possibly because of a rather unfitting nickname) are going to unite people, of a variety of backgrounds, against him along with the GOP.
I'm skeptical of the "greek chorus" line. The article offers no source for it's claims, only substantiating with "it's reported."
for his campaign announcement way back, there's this, which i suppose you could still argue isn't conclusive
This was obvious enough that people were calling it out during the press conference (outside of it obv), but Trump was never a man of subtlety.
Thats cute, but it doesn't mean there aren't folks who will still genuinely cheer him on when he calls out the press. The guy wouldn't have been elected if he didn't have some supporters.
Yeah, no. None of those people would've been at that press conference, as it was open only to the press. Press are professionals. They don't cheer or boo during press conferences. I don't doubt this article for a second - or have you forgotten this? Christ, that was some creepy shit.

Of course you might say this was just to fluff up the announcement and nothing else, it definitely makes the article a little bit more believable. They still don't source their claim but even then, wow. I did a little paid LGBT activism in college so I totally get where this is coming from.
Yeah, no. I fail to see the connection you're making--I'm sure it's a good one, but I just don't see it.

Hardly relevant.
It's a demonstration of the man's character. It's perfectly relevant, and is evidence, even if circumstantial, that supports the report on Politico. When a man is a proven narcissist, this fits his personality perfectly. You still haven't answered the question of who would be cheering at the white house at a conference where only press and Trump's staffers were allowed in. Amusingly enough, after the campaign rally in the video I linked, he then violated the agreement he had signed with those girls and their parents, prompting them to sue him (in addition to the hundreds of lawsuits he already has against him) demonstrating for the world to see that he is a bastion of integrity. This is your president, America. Good fucking job.
this press conference was a white house one, right? the first paragraph of the article almost makes it seem like it was at trump tower. i tried looking for who exactly is allowed in these besides the white house press corps, but couldn't find the specifics. i think that oughta shed some more light on how likely (personal opinion: very) this is

Iirc supporters and protestors and KANYE have been gathering outside the lobby entrance since November
It was at trump tower
The news conference is scheduled to kick off at 11 a.m. Eastern Time at Trump Tower in New York, where he has been holding meetings with cabinet candidates and prominent figures such as Kanye West and Alibaba boss Jack Ma.
http://www.marketwatch.com/story/what-time-is-donald-trumps-press-conference-on-wednesday-2017-01-11
Honest question directed broadly at Trump supporters, what is the breaking point? What would it take to actually undermine your trust in this individual? Bearing in mind the months and months worth of scandal, broken promises, awful cabinet picks, terrifying policy decisions, increasingly concerning potential for Russian entanglement, when is it enough? What does he have to do?
He had to actually pay for what basically is false support. Pay them. Because he can't actually get genuine support out of them. There's something definitely wrong on that if he can't get the genuine support on his claims
Hard evidence, for one.
oh yeah I forgot this article is fake news
Hard evidence, for one.
Okay, but, of what? 'Cause there's an awful lot of different things that are worrisome about Trump and off the top of my head foreign influences and conflicts of interest have a pretty substantial amount of evidence behind them Is none of this hard enough? Or does it just not concern you? I'm kinda looking for something a bit less vague than just 'hard evidence'
