DONETSK, Ukraine — On the sidewalk of a busy street beside a checkpoint, a bearded gunman wrapped a woman in a Ukrainian flag and forced her to stand, sobbing in terror, holding a sign identifying her as a spotter for Ukrainian artillery. “She kills our children,” it read. Because the woman was a spy, said the gunman, a pro-Russian militant, everything that would happen to her would be well-deserved. Passers-by stopped their cars to get out and spit, slap her face and throw tomatoes at her. Her knees buckled. She struggled to mumble in protest of her innocence and to shake her head in denial. This theatrical scene of abuse unfolded a day after the rebel movement had paraded Ukrainian prisoners of war down a main thoroughfare here at bayonet point, then dramatically washed the pavement behind them.
Disgusting. Here's a follow up image (nasty) not included in the article.
These guys are sure good at making me not like them.
I hope one day these leaders and soldiers stand before an international war crime court or the end of a barrel either one
I hope one day these leaders and soldiers stand before an international war crime court or the end of a barrel either one
I wouldn't expect the Ukrainian army to show restraint like that [editline]26th August 2014[/editline] Taking them to the Hague I mean, the gun barrel alternative is more likely
Unbelievable. This is atrocious.
What's next, are they going to put skulls and crossbones on their uniforms? At this point, they must know they're not really looking like the 'good guys' to the global public..
Wow, you know Dontesk, I'm real glad you haven't killed innocent people, especially children! Oh wait... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malaysia_Airlines_Flight_17
What's next, are they going to put skulls and crossbones on their uniforms? At this point, they must know they're not really looking like the 'good guys' to the global public..
Russia is helping them much more actively lately so it doesn't even matter
throw tomatoes at her
Ah, the good old medieval way
I hope one day these leaders and soldiers stand before an international war crime court or the end of a barrel either one
lmao the white knighting in this thread is too much yes it's horrible, yes it's war just because she happens to be female doesn't mean she's exempt from the shit that happens, she was an artillery spotter ideally this shouldn't happen, but it happens anyway, it always happens clarifying here before the boxes roll in, this is bad, but it's war, you have to kind of expect it to happen
lmao the white knighting in this thread is too much yes it's horrible, yes it's war just because she happens to be female doesn't mean she's exempt from the shit that happens, she was an artillery spotter ideally this shouldn't happen, but it happens anyway, it always happens
This shouldn't be happening full stop, it's a war crime.
This shouldn't be happening full stop, it's a war crime.
and war isn't a crime in itself? are you saying that war is okay then if you follow arbitrary sets of rules?
and war isn't a crime in itself? are you saying that war is okay then if you follow arbitrary sets of rules?
No he wasn't, you're forcing words into his mouth. War is awful, but war crimes like these pour more fuel onto the fire and shouldn't be done regardless.
lmao the white knighting in this thread is too much yes it's horrible, yes it's war just because she happens to be female doesn't mean she's exempt from the shit that happens, she was an artillery spotter ideally this shouldn't happen, but it happens anyway, it always happens clarifying here before the boxes roll in, this is bad, but it's war, you have to kind of expect it to happen
Thank God war makes it all alright, otherwise it might be somehow disagreeable. Hooray for war, the great justifier of gratuitous abuse!
Thank God war makes it all alright, otherwise it might be somehow disagreeable. Hooray for war, the great justifier of gratuitous abuse!
He never said that makes it ok. He was merely pointing out that these things happen in conflict and people shouldn't be so suprised. Eg warcrimes, US and UK shot prisoners in Afghanistan and Iraq. Illegal but still happens.
War is awful, but war crimes like these is pouring more fuel onto the fire.
Which happens unfortunately. [editline]26th August 2014[/editline]
He never said that makes it ok.
and war isn't a crime in itself? are you saying that war is okay then if you follow arbitrary sets of rules?
International law recognizes that nations may engage in war against a hostile invader. Like right now, Donetsk is defending their right to be invaded by Russia. Or something like that.
International law recognizes that nations may engage in war against a hostile invader. Like right now, Donetsk is defending their right to be invaded by Russia. Or something like that.
Technically it's defending their right to trade with Russia. Edit: Hey dumbasses who gave me the boxes, I'm not saying I'm in support of Russia, I'm just saying it's the "reason" that the Donetsk's republic uses.
Technically it's defending their right to trade with Russia.
Which Russia could technically grant any time if it wasn't pathologically jealous of Ukraine deepening its ties to EU.
Well if this is the worst they are doing. I mean its shitty, but put it in perspective with what IS would do.

"It's war" doesn't excuse tying up and publicly torturing civilians. And are you really defending these piece of shit rebels? Holy hell, how do you even sleep at night.
Yeah, this is not a good thing, expecially after the controversal "parade" they had. Overtop. However, we have to consider what some people are being put through in warzones. They might've had their relatives killed and now got blind by anger and grief (or just go nutz) Horrible thing is - this is not the first case on either sides. You have humiliation of berkut forces after revolution and various shit "Svoboda" done and the Odessa Massacre. This madness have no affinity. And it better stop soon.

Because they lost someone to the opposing side its justifiable to treat someone who supports the opposing side (or was claimed to be) like a stray diseased animal? Shit like this is never justifiable no matter what side your on... and trying to reason with it is just ignorant.

Holy hell, how do you even sleep at night.
A civilian? Are you shitting me? There's no evidence that the woman is a civilian, for all we know she seriously could be a spy that spots for the Ukranian army. People in this thread are ridiculous. This shit happens all the time in war, and forces that this forum supports are probably doing something similar right now. I feel like people in this thread are just trying to get an excuse for people to hate the Separatists even more. And you really do have to consider their grievances. Estimates suggest around 8,000+ Civilians have died from this civil war. The Ukranian policy of shelling cities is terrible and a majority of those 8,000+ losses can be accounted into the shelling of cities. Whats even worse is that this has caused the Separatists to get even more angered and embroiled in the conflict, giving the entire reason this article has been posted. I'm not on any side (I hate both of them) here but this blind support of the Ukrainian side has really got to stop. It doesn't confirm anywhere that she is actually a spy
He never said that makes it ok. He was merely pointing out that these things happen in conflict and people shouldn't be so suprised. Eg warcrimes, US and UK shot prisoners in Afghanistan and Iraq. Illegal but still happens.
No he wasn't, he was deliberately shitposting and there's no other way to put it. Here, let me quote the important part:
just because she happens to be female doesn't mean she's exempt from the shit that happens, she was an artillery spotter
Nobody mentioned the gender or sex of the victim prior to that. Nobody cared, because everyone else understood that terrible shit can happen to anyone and harming POWs isn't fucking cool. Now the entire thread is tainted, because post fucking ten had to be some bullshit about gender-bias in regards to who can be an acceptable casualty or not. This would be fine if there was an actual reason for it, or perhaps it was an issue that needed to be discussed, but certainly not with some cheap, sanctimonious stab against the entire fucking thread.
